Azure Backup Resource Locking

I need to make sure have proper resource locking when doing backups, but it isn't 
clear to me whether standard Azure backups provide this or not.  Can't seem to locate the proper documentation.

Question: Does Azure's standard virtual machine backup automatically perform locking on that VM's databases?
