Usage (for billing) unproportional to my daily backup sizes...

Hi,

I'm referring to "Usage you are responsible for" on the account billing page (which is ultimately what is of interest to me).

Initially, it was growing as I expected it to (and with larger backups), data compressed and all looked dandy.

Then I further optimized my backups (per one client machine) to average at 0.2 GB / day.

However then my daily usage grow kept at a steady pace of 1 GB/day (and even increasing) - while my backups were smaller and smaller.

- I have just one vault / machine on it - and nothing else, so this is the only thing contributing to that storage usage (it created active directory for me and I had one test vault which was removed, not used - that's all on my azure portal really)

- client agent jobs are showing small increments for daily backups - 100MB to 400MB max, or ~0.2GB/day

- and I took snapshots of my usage ("usage you are responsible for") which clearly show totally unrelated growth of ~1GB/day

- on the other side my vault's "Total storage consumed in Azure" is behaving reasonably and showing exactly as it should and as my client backups indicate (so it's couple times larger than the above but moves at a much smaller increments proportional to my local backups)

- I'm using geo redundancy for the vault - but I'm assuming that's being reflected in the price per GB - not the total storage size ?

- also I had couple restores (download activity) to test the thing but as I'm reading it that shouldn't count for anything (or at least not related to the storage)

So, tell me if I need to take this with the support and create an issue there - or if this is expected in some ways, though I can't see how it could be.

I'm expecting the usage and calculations (and consequently the billing) to be clear and something I could calculate up front as to know what to expect e.g. 180 days from now given my retention and backups. This way I have no idea what it's going to be.

I'm currently just testing one machine but depending on that we plan to be using this on a dozen machines and possibly more. So even this, sizes and prices may be negligible now it's not on the grand scheme of things.

Thanks !

Dragan

P.S.

In one of your posts here (https://social.msdn.microsoft.com/Forums/azure/en-US/ae41c2f5-0d6a-4f1e-ba72-7197c4707aee/final-word-on-compression-yes-or-no?forum=windowsazureonlinebackup)

You say the following ...

"The size of the data located in online storage is going to be a sum of all recovery points sent to date, minus ones that have been deleted based on retention goal"

which is what I'm expecting, but it's not what I'm getting
