We used Azure cloud backup to backup two servers holding 14 instances.
About 10 days ago we decided we had migrated from the one server to the other and no longer needed the cloud backups of that server. We deleted those 14 instances from the azure portal. We now realize we need that backup.
Is there anyway an MS Engineer can reinstate a backup instance? Similar to deleteing an echange mailbox but for 30days it is recoverable? We needing to try and recover a sql backup as the MDF has changed to 0 bytes and the SQL backup on the on prem server will not open.
Any assistance will be greatly appreciated.
Sorry, I'm still confused about the subject, wishing MSFT will provide more examples in FAQ/pricing calculator.
Assuming:
Is this schema correct? (daily churn rate in bold red, auto-merged (?) recovery points in bold italic, total block blob storage in bold in column D)
Additionally, could you help me to understand how much additional storage is needed adding Weekly retention policy of Wednesday backups (say for 8 weeks)?
Thanks in advance
Marco
New Windows 2016 Essentials install. I went to use Azure backup option and obtained an Azure backup subscription added to client O365 account. When running configuration wizard an error is realized after providing the Azure credentials and selecting the backup criteria of region and vault. On first attempt vault was created on every subsequent attempt the vault was selected from the vault option list.
The wizard error: Azure backup configuration did not succeed.
An unknown error occurred.... <http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?linkid=30918.. Error Code: 80040280
When I log into Azure and select the backup vault that was created the following error is in the log: Update Resource Certificate
Hello,
I am using MARS Agent ver. 2.0.9145.0 to backup files and folders from the fileserver running Windows Server 2008 R2. Everything was running fine until I started to receive error messages: "Job completed with warnings" and in "View filed file list":
DATA FAILURE 0x8007000 C:\PATH_TO_FILE\random_file.pdf
I have full access to those files, mainly .pdf, doc, docx, xls, xlsx, jpg
Any advise greatly appropriated.
Have downloaded and installed Microsoft Azure Recovery Services (MARS) agent. The correct version is registered in Azure but am still getting nag messages to update on physical server backup utility...any ideas?
I was getting notification to update to new version but they did not go away after reporting successfully installation/update...correct version is reported in Azure...backups are still working.
I want to reduce the Azure VM backup policy at the same time I need the last 30days backup.
My Existing Azure VM Backup policy is 30days and I want to reduce the retention policy into 7 days, At the same time, I want the last 30 days Backup.
Is There any solutions for this...
Hi,
We have a number of Windows servers located at customer sites which are backed up to azure recovery services using the MARS agent. This works well.
We have configured email alerts to notify us if a backup has failed. However, I understand that this will not not alert us in the scenario that a server fails to even attempt to backup (i.e. the sever is off or there's a problem starting the task).
To implement such alerts, my thoughts are to try and pipe the backup logs to a storage account and then create an alert (in powerbi?) to detect when a new log has not been created for x number of days.
I'm very much at the concept stage with this, and would like some help with:
- Am I approaching the problem in the correct way?
- If so, how do I configure the above?
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Matt.
I recently downloaded this update for existing azure users
http://azure.microsoft.com/blog/2014/09/11/announcing-long-term-retention-for-azure-backup/
after running this update it verifies I have
Windows .Net framework 4.5 & Windows Powershell but it still fails with this error:
The Microsoft Azure Recovery Services Agent installation has failed.
Error : Failed to install Microsoft Azure Recovery Services Agent.
Problem : 1603:Fatal error during installation
I am not sure what is going on, I tried a couple of times, rebooted the server, still fails every time, when I open the program itself, it is still setup correctly and working, but it says the event log is corrupt, and the log is suppose to be in event viewer/Applications and Service Logs/Cloudbackup, but it is not there, so I have no way to clear it to fix this issue either...I guess I may have to uninstall and re-install the entire program.
My error log states this:
Product: Windows Azure Backup Agent -- Error 1722. There is a problem with this Windows Installer package. A program run as part of the setup did not finish as expected. Contact your support personnel or package
vendor. Action EventsCleanup, location: C:\Program Files\Windows Azure Backup Agent\bin\, command: "C:\Windows\system32\wevtutil.exe" cl CloudBackup
I just wanted to see if anybody else is having this issue?
Question about Azure restores of vhds. Currently I'm testing vhd restores. Only backups older than 7 days are restoring vhd successfully (ie. vault only). Anything newer just restores the json files so I'm assuming there are additional steps. All backups are application consistent.
Thanks
Hi
We have MABS installed and use it to back up our VMs at the host level.
This is working fine for all VMs except for one.
The error it gives is:
"
"
I've looked up this error, and suggestions are to run DiskShadow /L c:\temp\output.txt
list writers
exit
And examine the output.txt file for '\\' which should lead to any invalid image names that need correcting.
I've tried this on the VM and the Hyper-V host that it is on, however there is nothing in the output.txt files that need fixing.
I've tried the following troubleshooting:
Backups in MABS at the guest level for 'All Volumes' and 'System Protection' work fine for the VM.
Any ideas?
I've set a schedule on Server 2012 r2 for azure windows backup.
I can run manually but the automated task gives this error.
Task Scheduler successfully completed task "\Microsoft\OnlineBackup\Microsoft-OnlineBackup" , instance "{e30a3bc3-44d2-4d6d-b006-c31bbdf00696}" , action "C:\Windows\system32\windowspowershell\v1.0\powershell.exe" with return code 2147942401.
All I did was register server on the new credentials for azure.
Hello,
My company is currently transitioning from local disk and tape backup to disk and Azure Backup through Data Protection Manager 1807.
We have a large amount of files that we backup still on tape and we'd like to use the Azure Import/Export service to move them in one large chunk offline and sent to Microsoft to upload.
The instructions say that we need to make a Storage Account in the process and currently we have none. All we have is the Recovery Services vault.
Is the Storage Account absolutely necessary for this process and if so, after the initial upload, do we need to keep that Storage Account or can it be canceled/deleted?
Thanks!
Are there some who have experience/ find a solution with the very low speed with recovery of backup performed with Azure backup agent to Azure from Win 2012 Server I am about to restore about 500GB folders with documents and images from Azure to our server. But have had to give up because the speed is so low that Azure backup drive is unmounted before the job is done, or just close then. I use a 500Mbps fiber connection. Experiencing an average speed 300KB/s or 2.4Mbps 6 hours to restore 8,3GB! |
I'm backing up 4 Vm's and the backup storage is huge.
I've reduced the retention policy down to a few months but the storage used didn't change at all.
How do I reduce the size of the storage used ?

Hi,
- When VM is turned off, Recovery Services Vault Azure VM backup is in "Crash consistency" stage. Does it affect restore (I.E AD, WEB, SharePoint servers) when the backup is in this stage?
These Azure VM are NOT configure for VSS full backup.
- How does Recovery Service Vault backup SQL database/log when the VM is stop?
Thank you
Hi
Daily LINUX VM backup is finishing Ok,but prechecks status is CRITICAL, when I check the status the message is not clear, any recommendation is available.

Any idea? What type of precheck are performed by Azure? And other question would be if there is some type of alert to be send when backup precheck fails.
Regards,
hello, since the portal migration, I am unable to delete any backup elements from any recovery services vault, my subscription id is 3b0da945-9494-435f-af50-6a1def7e1bda and the offer id is MS-AZR-0025P, thank you for any help.

I should get (screenshot from the online doc) :
something else strange too : no name is displayed for the selected vault :
I'm having some issues with my VM backups on Azure.
I've created a backup with local redundancy and attached to it a Backup policy with daily retention of 2 days per backup.
My problems started when I figured out that the retention was not working as intended: I still have recovery points older than 2 days (6 days old, to be precise), I need those backups to be removed and NEVER kept more than 2 days. My policy seems to be correct but those backups remain.
The VM includes some premium SSD disks, could this mean their backup is kept for that long?
Thanks to everyone who answers this issue!
