Hi,

I am using an Azure Trial Account. I want to use Azure Backup tool to backup Standard SSD (offered by Azure). But i get an error stating the Azure SSD backup is not supported.

I have attached the screenshot in this ticket.

As per the mentioned URL Link: https://azure.microsoft.com/en-in/updates/azurebackup-standardssdmanageddisks/ #azure supports backup of SSD.

Can you please look into the issue i am facing and let me know the troubleshooting steps to fix the issue.

Thanks

I am able to take the sql database backup running on Azure VM to blob container manually, however when scheduling the back jobs to blob storage it is failing but when I saw on storage blob the backup files are existing. I am not understanding whether those backup are consistent. I have created only the database on the Azure VM for testing.

Another

I have setup the SQL Vm back up in Azure and selected the full backup and transaction log backup houryly. the backup is runing fine and restored the full database on alternative location on same region with no recovery mode and its working after that I am restoring the latest transaction log with recovery mode with overwrite option, but I am seeing the one database with same name is restoring and another database with same name on operational status. Can't the transaction log backup overwrite to the existing database.

Azure Backup Agent Freeze Restore Point

My company has entered receivership and has closed most of our remote offices.  These remote offices had a server being backed up by the Azure Backup Agent.  All the remote office servers are now inaccessible and no further backup jobs are running.  For potential future litigation I need to preserve at least one restore point for each remote office within my Azure Recovery Vault.  I don't see where I can "freeze" a restore point from within Azure.  The current retention is 30 days, but like I said I need to retain at least one copy of this data indefinitely, but restore points seem to be "falling off" each day.  How do I retain at least one restore point indefinitely within the Azure Portal?

Backup of SQL Databases in Azure VM ( AutoProtect)

Hi

We have a SQL server in a Azure Vm hosting 275 databases, and would like to use Azure Backup for Sql in azure vm (preview).
Its a standalone, windows 2016 server, with SQL 2017 standard, all databases is placed in a named instance.

Now I'm able to discover the server and databases, but if I use the autoprotect feature, and select the instance. It check off all the databases ( and shows that one instance I selected ), but no databases is registering, when I enable the backup.

If I go back to the server in azure backup, autoprotect is on, but no instances is selected and no databases is showing.
If I disable autoprotect and click through all 2075 databases it seems to work, but I need the autoprotect features as new databases is created once in a while and need protection.

My policy is
1 full backup on Saturday
Diff backup sun,mon,tue,wed,thu,fri
Log backup, every 30min.

Will it only detect the databases at the first full backup or is this feature not working as intended ?

best regards

Michael

Queries on Azure Backup

Hi Team,

I have a couple of queries related to Azure Backup solution. Can someone please assist on the same:

1. Does Azure native backup allow to store data in BLOB Storage (to leverage HOT/COOL/ARCHIVE tiers)? As per the Azure documentation and pricing calculator, the data is stored in General Purpose V1.

I believe, the only alternative is to use 3rd party backup solution like Commvault, Veeam, etc.

2. Does Azure allow Azure VM snapshot using 3rd party backup solution?

Thank you so much for your time and support in advance.

Regards, Srinivas

MARS Informational Alerts

Not to beat a dead horse, but I'm one of many looking for a solution to this glaring issue with notifications for successful backups.  We are using MARS running on a server, on-premise, backing up the data directly to Azure Recovery Services Vault.  I found the article explaining how to setup alerts and although it's for Azure VM's, I figured it might work for what I needed.  So, not only has Microsoft left out a very critical component to disaster recovery best practices, the documentation at which to mitigate the oversight is outdated.  The Log Filters are not the same with the updated portal as what's in the documentation.   ???  SMH.....  Sometimes you wonder if they have anyone within the product development teams that actually use the products.  The development group needs to get involved with their support team to learn the shortcomings of some of the most basic, yet critical, components.  If they had to work closely with support I'm sure it would make for a better product.  Done with my rant.  Anyone have any solutions they have worked out on their own?  My next option is probably to create a scheduled task that looks for an event in the Windows log to generate an alert.  ??

Thanks in advance!

Delete older recovery points?

Hi folks!

I was wondering if there's some way to delete recovery points older than a certain date.

When I begin checking out Azure Recovery Vaults, I just went with the defaults. Now I've lowered the retention rate, changed frequency of backups etc, and want to delete backups older than a certain date, say, 30 Nov 2018) to keep the ongoing costs low, but I'm having some trouble figuring out how I can do this either on the GUI of the portal, or on Powershell with the AzureRM module.

Have you explored something similar?

MARS agent, register server error ID: 34513

Dear
I've been experiencing problems installing the Azure Agent MARS to perform the documentation backup of each client in a specific vault.

Currently, even if you clean the antiques certificates, delete or modify logs on the operating system and download the agent installer and the vault credentials I still experience the same error message, this happens to me in W10 and W10SP2 client computers.

And the problem is something strange because I have computers to which if you could register and perform daily backups without any problem.

Without finding a viable solution, I appeal to your knowledge so that you can see if anyone could solve this problem.

Regards,

Hi,

I have installed Microsoft Azure Backup on my server but failing to register it against azure, the vault credentials look to validate fine as they pickup the Backup vault name and region then when hitting next for server registration it fails with the following error

"The activation did not complete successfully. Microsoft Azure Backup encountered an internal error. Wait for a few minutes and then try the operation again. If the issue persists, please contact Microsoft support."

Any help greatly appreciated, been stuck with this one for a few days now and not sure what's causing it.

System state backup, what is included, and what type of backup? (incremental/full/differential)

Hi,

I have a DC / file server on-premise.

we have setup Azure backup (MARS Agent).

currently we are backing up system state, c:\ and D:\ drive.

each system state backup is 12GB, and completed in 20 minutes.

what is actually being backed up?, and what type is used?, if it is 12GB each day, it looks like a full backup, however since it is done in 20 minutes, it seems to be to fast, for a 12GB file transfer over the internet (MARS Agent reports 12GB data transfered)

Thanks in advance

Instance Sizes Related To Pricing

$

It would be extremely helpful if MSFT can confirm the following.

  1. The only two costs are Instances and Data Stored.  There is no additional Azure Backup License fee, correct?
  2. Looking on the Backup Pricing page https://azure.microsoft.com/en-us/pricing/details/backup/?msclkid=c236e250f5821b065adcbe0bd1119d3e&OCID=AID719825_SEM_4fTMC5ga&lnkd=Bing_Azure_Brand&dclid=CMOw4Nbbp-ACFXzI4wcdGnwKCg  It says "For virtual machines, the size of the allocated disk determines the data size.".  Further below in the example it uses the amount of storage consumed to calculate instance sizing.

So, if I have a VM with a P50 (4TB) drive attached and only 499GB used. Are the number of instances calculated based off        of the size of the P50 drive or off of the 499GB used?  I know that for Blob Storage it will be the 499GB.  Just trying to              figure out for instances.

  3. Same scenario as number 2 but the VM is running on prem.  How are instances calculated?

Thanks,

Pete

Azure Backup job skipped a file without giving notification

Hello, I have a backup azure process on a prem server that is running the backup for few files and folder. During the process, it skipped one file (size of 2GB). Most likely the file has been skipped due that was in use from another process or application. When running again the job, the skipped file was uploaded correctly.

I have configured alerts from the Azure portal and I have also checked in the event manager, but there aren't any warnings.

How can I get a notification or a warning when the agent skip a file? I would like to have control of what has been uploaded successfully and what not.
