Trying to install Azure Backup on System Center 2012 Data Protection Manager Service Pack1(DPM 2012 SP1) or System Center 2012 R2 Data Protection Manager (DPM 2012 R2) results in "The DPM version installed on this machine is not compatible with Microsoft Azure Recovery Services Agent. Please install the compatible version and rerun the installer."

Please install UR7 update 2966012 for System Center 2012 Data Protection Manager Service Pack 1.

Alternative to LiveVault?

We currently have a MS fileserver running locally and backed up using LiveVault. I want to relocate my fileserver to Azure - but am very fuzzy on the options for backing up the file server once it is there.

How can I find the available options?  I am looking for low administration, low cost, minimum downtime for backups, easy administration, and easy restore options down to a single file.

Unable to download Vault credentials file

In Azure management portal, in the Recovery services section, the Download Azure Backup Agent link works OK but the Vault credentials download link does not. When clicking it, it only says the following in the status line:

Generating vault credentials file for backup vault 'xx'. Your download will start in few moments.

but no download starts.

We have tried IE 10 and IE 11 and Chrome browsers, but none will work.

How to successfully download the vault credentials file?

Backup of enterprise cloud application where data is stored at multiple places like blob, sql, Vm etc.

Hi All,

I am developing enterprise cloud application which stores the data at multiple systems.

  1. Two database in SQL Azure
  2. Files in Azure Blob Storage
  3. Search index on Search VM on F drive; specific folder, It uses Elastic search

The application is live 24X7X365,

Currently we take back by taking application (cloud service - 2 web and 1 worker role) down and then take backup and then bring the application up. This is to ensure that we take snapshot of all 3 locations at the same time and data in all 3 systems is in synch. This requires application to be down for at least 1 hour.

Not sure how I can take snapshot of all 3 systems at the given time; without taking down time or minimizing it. Does azure provides any features around this.

Thanks,

Subodh

Windows Azure Backups are failing from DPM 2012 R2.

I am getting some weird errors in 'C:\Program Files\Windows Azure Backup Agent\Temp' the log files. I am using DPM 2012 R2 to back up SQL Server which is working great but now I added my files which is not working great. I backup from two areas and one area works great but the other keeps giving me this error 'The current backup operation failed because the number of data transfer failures was more than 100 Specified files could not be processed. (ID 100057).' I tried looking through the logs to see why they have errors. I will send the logs to waobsupport@microsoft.com once the thread is created.

Problem Windows Azure Online Backup Protected Items

Hello,

I'm testing the preview version of the Windows Azure Online Backup.

I have created a Backup Vault, where I succesfully uploaded my certificate. After that I succesfully installed the Windows Azure Online Backup on the server where DPM 2012 SP1 is running. I succesfully registered the online protection in DPM 2012 SP1.

Yesterday, I have created a new protection group where I chose to backup a virtual machine. The jobs said that everything was OK.

After that I went to the Windows Azure portal where I select my Backup vault. Under the Dasboard-tab it shows me that I used 5 GB storage, if I go to Protected items I get the following alert:

"You have some protected items associated with System Center - Data Protection Manager servers. We are currently not able to list protected items from these servers."

I also can't open the Windows Azure Backup Agent(Windows Azure Backup Agent\bin\ManagedSetup), although the installation-wizard says that it was succesfully installed.

Kind regards

Thomas

Retrieve Azure Backup Vault data on Windows 8?

I just installed Azure Backup on our company Windows 2012 Essentials server. We have just this server. I made a backup and it looks like everything works fine.

But now I want to try to restore the data to another computer. Basically I want to test if this works. But I don’t have another server. But it seems there is no possibility to access the backed up data on a desktop Windows PC i.e. with Windows 8.

Does anybody know if it is possible that I can download data from the vault with Windows 8?

Thanks

Azure Recovery Services Agent Upgrade Wizard Fails to Install **Fatal Error**

I recently downloaded this update for existing azure users

http://azure.microsoft.com/blog/2014/09/11/announcing-long-term-retention-for-azure-backup/

after running this update it verifies I have

Windows .Net framework 4.5 & Windows Powershell but it still fails with this error:

The Microsoft Azure Recovery Services Agent installation has failed.

Error : Failed to install Microsoft Azure Recovery Services Agent.
Problem : 1603:Fatal error during installation

I am not sure what is going on, I tried a couple of times, rebooted the server, still fails every time, when I open the program itself, it is still setup correctly and working, but it says the event log is corrupt, and the log is suppose to be in event viewer/Applications and Service Logs/Cloudbackup, but it is not there, so I have no way to clear it to fix this issue either...I guess I may have to uninstall and re-install the entire program.

My error log states this:

Product: Windows Azure Backup Agent -- Error 1722. There is a problem with this Windows Installer package. A program run as part of the setup did not finish as expected. Contact your support personnel or package vendor.  Action EventsCleanup, location: C:\Program Files\Windows Azure Backup Agent\bin\, command: "C:\Windows\system32\wevtutil.exe" cl CloudBackup

I just wanted to see if anybody else is having this issue?

I had some user learning curve problems setting up Windows Azure Backup agent - so I uninstalled it and tried again.

However, when I try to reinstall it - I get the message that it is already installed.

I think it is only partially uninstalled.

Backing Up Storage Server 2008 to Azure Backup

$

I have an onsite file server running Windows 2008 Storage Server. This server is just Windows 2008 standard with a few more file sharing features.

I would like to backup this server up to the Azure Backup service.  But when I try to install the Azure Backup client I receive an error stating that the client will not install/run on this version of Windows.  The Azure Backup client is compatible with Windows 2008, 2008 R2, 2012 and 2012 R2.  I am confused as this is a version of Windows 2008 server.  Is there anyway to be able to install the Azure Backup client on this server or a way to backup this server to Azure?

Thanks for everyone's help and suggestions.

Joel

VMWare to Azure Site Recovery pricing

$

Hi all,

We are looking into Disaster Recovery solution and I have a hard time understanding the pricing and the conditions of using Azure Site Recovery.

We are going to have a file server running Windows Server 2012 R2 on a VMWare host.
The files shared currently amount to 300GB of space.
There is nothing else critical running on this server.

I understand that there is a cost of 52.44 CHF/month/instance (http://azure.microsoft.com/en-us/pricing/details/site-recovery/).
How can I calculate the cost in the case I need to use the Azure Site Recovery to run my server? What are the elements that I am going to pay for once the machine is running in Azure?

Thank you very much.

Windows Azure Backup stuck on 41301

I am using Windows Azure Backup to backup to Recovery services.

I experimented with Task Scheduler and modified the times created by wabadmin.msc

Now the scheduled tasks don't run at all. When viewing from Task Scheduler, the task is stuck on 0x41301

"Backup Now" works normally

Is there a way to view the log file? Event viewer shows nothing
