Can't modify Azure backup on W2k12 Essentials

$

I have been using Microsoft Azure from cloud backup of data on Windows Server 2012 Essentials. We'd now like to add more items to the backup. When using wbadmin to add items to the backup I've been getting the following message.

There are no entries in the server's event logs for this issue.

The More Inforamation link has no information at all.

Is there another way to modify the current backup or to resolve this?

Azure Backup fails with error 0x003E6 after data transmission (Protection Agent Failure)

On a Windows Essentials 2012 Server (German) I had Azure Backup up and running for several months.
(Probably) After adding features to support Remote Access, Azure Backup stopped working.

The backup schedule executes and transfers all data, than it constantly fails with the error:

"Fehler beim Vorgang aufgrund eines Schutz-Agent-Fehlers. Wiederholen Sie den Vorgang (0x003E6)" which translates to the english "The operation failed because of a protection agent failure. Retry the operation (0x003E6)".

An update of the Backup Agent to the latest version did not resolve the issue.

Does anybody know details about this error and the reason behind it?

Dominik

The part of the Azure Online Backup that does the "estimating size of back items" is taking hours to complete.   Is there anyway to speed it up?  I want to be backing up files right away, not have to wait for an estimate of size.

I had some user learning curve problems setting up Windows Azure Backup agent - so I uninstalled it and tried again.

However, when I try to reinstall it - I get the message that it is already installed.

I think it is only partially uninstalled.

Backup to cloud fails @ 95.5 gb

I have setup Azure on W Server 2008 r2 sp1 and have configured vault etc. I am trying to do our initial upload to the cloud storage. It got to @ 96 gb and stopped. The only error I can find is 0x007E3. I have fully patched the server so don't think this is the issue. If I look on the portal storage it says there is @96 gb of data.

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks

Bill

Backup policies configured on Windows Azure Backup are out of sync with this DPM server. (ID 33413)

Hello all,

I keep getting this event logged in DPM 2012 SP1 as a Critical error and no matter what I do I cannot get it to disappear.

"Backup policies configured on Windows Azure Backup are out of sync with this DPM server. (ID 33413)"

Coupled with clickable links to "Inactivate" and "Refresh Online Policies". Neither of these seems to do anything that removes this issue from my DPM server.

Backups works and there seems not be any problems with storage space.

The Azure agent seems to be of latest version since there are no messages in DPM about upgrading it and no problems with Online Backup either, certificates and all are all there and works.

Hi

I'm trying to test Azure Recovery Services and have established a Backup Vault and connected a new server to it using the Azure generated certificate. The set-up seemed to be very simple and the installation of the agent went like a dream.

Unfortunately it does not work as after I start a backup I get the error "Engine encountered an unexpected error. Please ....." The corresponding event log entry is:

I have tried it on a second server built at the same time and it fails there with the same error

Azure Backup-reviewing Windows 8.1 azure client for enterprise use

hello, i'm kicking the tires on the Azure Recovery Services Site agent for Windows 8.1. I like it - seems easy. The question I have:

I notice you have to provide a passphrase.  We would like to test this offering with 10 employees but the management of the passphrase is a bit concern.  Is there a way from an Azure portal (or other method) to get the passphrase of each client machine?  as system administrators, we would like to keep a copy of the passphrase in Active Directory, Azure Portal, or some centralize place (we don't want to count on the user to solely hold that passphrase because if they lose it, they will be out of luck).

can anyone speak to that?

thanks

I have azure backup running on a server with 2 data drives. Azure has been running and backing up fine and I have been adding additional files each night to the backup so as not to have too large a nightly backup. All of a sudden no matter how many or little (i tried 1 word doc) files I chose the update to the backup policy fails with the "The backup policy could not be modified. Error: Unable to save backup policy. Selected items list for Backup is large or selected items have long path names. Please retry operation again after reducing individual items or selecting complete folders. Unable to save backup policy. Selected items list for Backup is large or selected items have long path names. Please retry operation again after reducing individual items or selecting complete folders." if I add files to the backup from an another drive it accepts the change fine?

Hello,

I have a question about Azure Backup.

We as an IT company have an Azure subscription for online backup (in test for the moment) and we are looking for an online backup solution for some of our customers.

Can/may we make different vaults within our subscription en let the customers take their backup in our subscription?

Or does every customer has to have a seperate subscription?

Thanks.

Azure Backup CATALOG FAILURE 0x80131500 on Windows 8.1 Pro

I recently installed the new Azure Backup client on a Windows 8.1 Pro computer to test the service. Every backup that is run is resulting in hundreds of skipped files showing the same error:

CATALOG FAILURE0x80131500

A random check of some of the files with this error revealed that some are backed up and available for restore whereas others do not appear to be available for restore. Further testing showed that the files that are available for restore can be restored.

Understanding Azure Backup Retention

I'm not seeing the expected behavior of Azure Backup regarding retention. Since Azure Backup is charged by the amount of data stored, we intend to keep the cost as low as possible by only storing the most recent backup. That is, we expect to only pay for the storage costs of one day's worth of recover points, which in our case will be one because we do only one backup per day. We are still performing onsite backup, and there we keep many days worth of backup recovery points.

On the Microsoft Azure Backup application's main screen, under "Destination usage" it shows "Retention: 1 days". However, I see under "Available Recovery Points" it shows "Total backups: 15", "Latest copy: 12/29/2014 4:30 AM", "Oldest copy: 12/19/2014 12:35 PM". When I visit the Recovery Services "PROTECTED ITEMS" onhttps://manage.windowsazure.com/, I see the number of "RECOVERY POINT", "NEWEST RECOVERY POINT", and "OLDEST RECOVERY POINT" shown match the same values displayed on the Microsoft Azure Backup application's main screen.

Why is Azure Backup retaining more recovery points than expected? Why is it retaining recovery points for more days than requested?

Microsoft Azure Backups not reducing available recovery points or destination usage after retention period has been reduced.

Microsoft Azure Backups not reducing available recovery points or destination usage after retention period has been reduced.

I had the retention period set to 30 day with around 6.8TB of backups. Over a week ago I changed the retention period down to 7 days, and it took a couple of days for the total recovery points to go down to 7. The destination usage was still going up.

I have come in today (monday) and the total backups is now 10 and the destination usage is now 7.57TB.

I only have the one server backing up to Azure Backups Services.

My questions are;
1. how long does it take for azure to delete backups from outside the retention period*
2. why are there move recovery points that the retention period?
3. Is there a way to purge just the backups outside the retention period?

*It does say the backup agent, "space allocation data is updated on a daily basis".

It would be a great help if anyone had some information on this as the storage costs are getting very high.

Thanks for the help in advance

OBEngine Service missing from a fresh install of Azure Backup

I downloaded the MS Azure Recovery Agent from the portal and registered and set up the server fine

I set up a quick backup job to test and when I came to run it I get the following error:

I have rebooted the server and still the same error

The service is missing so i guess that's why it won't run but I cant see or find how to get that service installed.

I would not have expected this issue from a clean install?

Anyone help please?

how does this work

Backup only changed files?

$

I am looking at moving all my backups to Azure, I have set up my first job to back up the 90GB of data from my web server.

Am I correct in thinking that the job i have scheduled to run every day will back it ALL up everyday?

Is there a way I could say run a FULL backup once a week but then everyday only backup files that have changed from the previous day?

This would speed up my backups, use less space and cost less money?

Thanks
