Azure Backup cbengine.exe consuming high memory utilisation

Hi there

Got Azure backup running from Server 2012 r2 to Azure cloud.  What is happening is that every second day I get a call from the customer stating they are not able to access database on server.  When investigate it was found that the cbengine.exe process memory usage has grown to the point that the server databases become unresponsive.

I have upgraded to the latest Azure backup agent and still this problem.

Any ideas welcome

DPM with Azure Backup - All in on-premises lost, is it possible to recover?

$

Hi everyone,

We are evaluating SCDPM as a backup solution integrated with Azure Backup. I have seen in the announcements that is it possible to recover DPM database using Windows Azure Backup solution. But I have a question regarding the following hypotetical scenario:

  • One SC DPM 2012 R2 where every protected member has Azure Backup enabled.
  • DPM dabase is also being backed up to Azure.
  • Disaster occurs and everything that was on-premises is lost: the DPM server itself AND the disks where the backup was performed.

Is it possible to restore the information that was stored in Azure? What would be the procedure?

Virtual Server 2005 SP1 required to install Azure Backup Agent on Win2008 (non R2)

I am attempting to install Windows Azure backup agent (2.0.8719.0) on a Windows 2008 Enterprise  (Non R2) server.  During the installation the installer shows that Microsoft Virtual Server 2005 R2 SP1 - Enterprise Edition is a required install.

Why is this?

This is a physical server with no Virtual or Hyper-V roles.

I've tried to get Azure Backup to back up one of my servers for quite some time.  However the job just fails at preparing storage every time.  I've uninstall and re-installed the agent multiple times.

The log isn't very helpful and this is the only error that i see.

Azure Backup on Azure Government

I'm trying to backup a Windows Server on Azure Government using this guide:

http://blogs.msdn.com/b/azuregov/archive/2015/10/06/azure-backup-on-azure-government.aspx?CommentPosted=true#commentmessage

I get to the step where I'm trying to create the backup using the Azure backup agent and every time I get this error which isn't very useful:

The backup policy could not be created.
Error: Microsoft Azure Backup encountered an unexpected error. Wait for a few minutes and then try the operation again. If the issue persists, contact Microsoft Support. Microsoft Azure Backup encountered an unexpected error. Wait for a few minutes and then try the operation again. If the issue persists, contact Microsoft Support.

I can't find any other information in logs anywhere, don't really know how to proceed here. Any help would be much appreciated. I have been able to get this to work in regular Azure so not sure if its an issue with Azure Government. Thanks!

Maximum size of backup

Hi,

I want to use Azure Backup with my Windows 8 x64 PC but I encounter an error with azure backup agent v2.0.8719 : 0x186E9 (the maximum size is 1700 Go).

In the azure backup FAQ, I see only a limit of 54400Go with the operating system I use.

So I don't understand why I have this message.

Thank you for your help,

Error: Failed to re-enable existing scheduled backup settings. The server must be registered with Microsoft Azure Backup before this operation can be performed

I've the need to restore a old backup from a different vault than I currently use. But I get the error:

Failed to re-enable existing scheduled backup settings. The server must be registered with Microsoft Azure Backup before this operation can be performed.

I've uninstalled the Azure Backup software, re-installed it again. Selected the old vault credentials (downloaded it freshley)  but the error remains.

When I try to register the server (Register Server Wizard) I get the same issue.

How can I restore from another vault (on another account) to my computer?

Hello All,

I have a case where the customer has Veeam on premises, and want to backup their storage in Azure.

Do you know whether this is possible? Have some of you faced this kind of project and do you know where to find more detailed information on what the steps are?

Thank you,

Problem Windows Azure Online Backup Protected Items

$

Hello,

I'm testing the preview version of the Windows Azure Online Backup.

I have created a Backup Vault, where I succesfully uploaded my certificate. After that I succesfully installed the Windows Azure Online Backup on the server where DPM 2012 SP1 is running. I succesfully registered the online protection in DPM 2012 SP1.

Yesterday, I have created a new protection group where I chose to backup a virtual machine. The jobs said that everything was OK.

After that I went to the Windows Azure portal where I select my Backup vault. Under the Dasboard-tab it shows me that I used 5 GB storage, if I go to Protected items I get the following alert:

"You have some protected items associated with System Center - Data Protection Manager servers. We are currently not able to list protected items from these servers."

I also can't open the Windows Azure Backup Agent(Windows Azure Backup Agent\bin\ManagedSetup), although the installation-wizard says that it was succesfully installed.

Kind regards

Thomas

Azure Site Recovery

Hi there,

1. I just subscribed to Azure 30 day pass.

2. Goal - setup Site recovery from my local server to Azure

3. Under Azure site recovery vault, I created "Between an on-premises sites with VMWARE/Physical Servers and Azure", I added "Deploy Configuration Server". There will be a pop up to input server configuration details.

4. When I tried to input "Microsoft Azure Network" portion, it does not detect the VMNet that I had created earlier.

Refer to screenshot: https://social.msdn.microsoft.com/Forums/getfile/738966

Any idea why?

Thanks

Backup failed with an internal error.

Hello,

I'm trying to backup my Azure IaaS Virtual Machines with Azure Backup. I created a Backup Vault, registered the VMs and protected the VMs. The Backup Job exits with the following error:

Backup failed with an internal error.
Please retry the operation in a few minutes. If the problem persists, contact Microsoft Support.

I tried that multiple times, with different Backup Vaults and VMs. The failed subtask is "Take Snapshot" and the error message is always the same as above. The version of WaAppAgent.exe inside the VMs is 2.6.1198.718

/EDIT: The VMs and Backup Vault are in the same Region. One VM hast a single OS disk and one has an additional data disk.

/EDIT: Storage replication is set to Locally Redundant.

Any suggestions?

Regards, Philipp

Backup failing with 'Internal error'

This is the message I'm getting when trying to backup (on the step: taking snapshot):

ERROR DETAILS
Backup failed with an internal error.

Please retry the operation in a few minutes. If the problem persists, contact Microsoft Support.

When I check the link I see two possible causes:

You can get this error for 2 reasons:

  1. There is too much data to be copied.
  2. The original VM has been deleted and therefore backup cannot be taken. In order to keep the backup data for a deleted VM but stop the backup errors, Unprotect the VM and choose the option to keep the data. This will stop the backup schedule and also the recurring error messages.

First reason: What is 'too much data'?  This is an Ubuntu server and it's size isn't out of this world.  How can I backup this machine?  Is Microsoft actually saying that it isn't capable of taking a backup of certain virtual machines?  This is a Standard DS2 machine, no additional storage added.

Second reason: although I'm pretty sure that's not the reason since the machine is live whole the time and backups where going fine till the 26th when they suddenly stopped working.  I have completely unprotected and unregistered the server, deleted all backups and started over but I'm getting the exact same message.

/edit: backup and VM are both located in the same region.

/edit2: version is: WALinuxAgent-2.0.14 running on Ubuntu

azure backup incremental and ondemand snapshot

$

Hi,

I have a question. if I schedule a VM to backup using azure backup service., and corresponding incremental backups..., can I also take a manual snapshot on demand & will that be a valid one ? for ex :

1. I schedule a daily backup on 1st of the month with 15 days of retention. So azure will take a full backup on 1st of the month and does incremental backups for the remaining 14 days. On 16th day, it will replace the incremental backup taken on 2nd.

In this manner, If I manually take a snapshot (on demand) on 5th of the month - will the original snapshot taken by azure on 1st will be in usable state  & thus the corresponding incrementals ?

Also will I be able to restore the snap shot on 5th, at any time ?

if I restore 5th snapshot., what will be the usability of the incrementals taken till 15th per original policy ?

can I keep the on-demand snapshot be forever in a usable mode ?

Azure Backup VERY slow

I've been using Azure Recovery Services along with the Backup Agent installed on several IaaS Windows 2012 R2 VMs.  I've noticed that over the last year, my backups  have come to a crawl.  For example, a recent backup started on 10/24/2015 @ 7:16 AM and ended on 10/26/2015 @ 1:52 AM (roughly 43 hours) to only backup 1.70 GB!

I have a new VM (less than 3 weeks old) that would backup reasonably fast, but now is taking over 16 hours to backup 320MB!

I'm not sure where to even start looking to figure out what is taking this so long.  Any ideas?

Thanks in advance.

Hi,

I have create a Azure IaaS VM Backup on the Azure Portal, and I found the backup task is unsuccessful, below is the error describtion. I want to know how to solve it, Thanks!

Error Details:Could not communicate with the VM agent for snapshot status. Snapshot VM sub task timed out.

Azure Backup backups up Microsoft SQL Server, Hyper-V VMs, SharePoint Server, Microsoft Exchange and Windows Clients in Microsoft Azure Backup Server, codenamed "Venus".

OffLine Backup

The internet connection at my client is not the greatest so I chose to do the offline backup to start the Azure Backup. I created my backup vault and I also created a storage container which I referenced in the Azure backup. I followed all the steps for preparing the drive and sent it into Microsoft. The data was copied form the drive and the drive returned. Everything seemed to go according to plan.

I went to check the backup but it still hasn't started up. The Azure client on the server says that it is "Waiting for the Azure import job to complete". when i look at my storage I see the container that I created and referenced in the backup but I also now see a second container. This container is called waimportexport and look to contain the data that was sent in. I believe that because the storage container is not the one referenced in the backup that it cannot see the data.

How can I get the data moved into the correct container so that the backup will continue?

Thanks,

Paul.
