DPM 2012R2 with Azure Backup - One online protection job never cmpletes

Hello,

we are facing an issue while online protecting a file Server. There are different DPM Servers in different locations, all with Online protection. In one location DPM protects two big file Servers (2TB / 4TB). Both have Online protection enabled. One Job runs fine the other Job never finished. Every time the Job is started, it seems to run fine, no Errors. But if I take a closer look into the Azure Backup Agent logs, there are several failiures.

The Azure Backup log (CBEngineCur) shows many of the following errors/warnings:

WARNING Failed: Hr: = [0x80070005] : CreateFile failed <a href="file://\\?\Volume{4fe594fa-2f37-4915-9be3-ed32c652264a}\b8eb475c-e208-4d9c-9879-28f6d0493050\">\\?\Volume{4fe594fa-2f37-4915-9be3-ed32c652264a}\b8eb475c-e208-4d9c-9879-28f6d0493050\<path to file> with error :5

DPM Online Protection Hangs and Eventually Fails

Hi,

Cant see a category relevant to post this so apologies if in the wrong section.

I have a DPM 2012 R2 installation that has been configured to use Azure for online protection.  All date is being sucessfully backed except for the file server data.  The recovery point to the cloud starts fine and i can see data going up to the cloud, however at some point the data seems to stop and sits there for a day or so and then eventually returns a fail with ID 3188.

I have completely removed the online protection and tried starting again, but i receive the same outcome.  I have tried checking the log files and i can see fails on .SWF, .XML, .JPG files.

The protection agent is using version 2.0.9028.0.  I can see from within Azure the data has been sent up but it will not register this as a recovery point to be able to restore from.

Can somebody assist to look at the logs please?

Azure Backup / On Prem Virtual Machines

Hi all, i'm evaluating some hyper-v virtual machine backup solutions and am now looking at Azure Backup as a possible solution. Let's say that you have several on-premise win2012r2 hyper-v clusters running about 400 virtual machines using about 30 terabytes of data.  Would Azure backup be an acceptable backup solution for an environment of this size? That's a lot of data flowing out of the network, over the internet, and into Azure. Let's say there is an Express Route connection into Azure. Does that make things better? Let's say for testing I want to back up a hyper-v cluster with 160 virtual machines and  12 terabytes of data. Do I have to install an agent on each one of the virtual machines? I'm just looking for some feedback on whether or not a virtual machine environment of this size might be able to leverage Azure Backup.

SCDPM/ Azure backup vault as Disaster recovery

Hi Folks,

I'm looking at disaster recovery solution onto azure. I know we have Azure Site recovery for this. But if we want to use backup vault or Azure backup Server for backup of few on premises VM's like DC and critical app VM's. In case of disaster would I be able to restore backed up VM on to Azure IAAS itself. Does it allow to change restore location. Can say cross premises restoration.?

Many thanks!

Can't install Azure Backup Server agents on any servers

I have a domain with a few servers. There is one server I am dedicating to running Azure Backup Server. I have to use Azure Backup Server since I want application-level backups for SQL Server. However, when trying to install the agent on a protected server (any server) I get the following error:

Install protection agent on pc1.domain.com failed:Error 347: An error occurred when the agent operation attempted to create the DPM Agent Coordinator service on pc1.domain.com.Error details: Unknown error (0x80990a2d)Recommended action: Verify that the Agent Coordinator service on pc1.domain.com is responding, if it is present. Review the error details, take the appropriate action, and then retry the agent operation.

If I try to manually install the agent on the target server, I get the error below.

I run this command, where DPM1 is the DPM/MABS server: .\DPMAgentInstaller_x64.exe DPM1

I get this error:

Multiple Machines backing up to a single storage Vault?

I am wanting to set up multiple client workstations to back up to single storage vault, but am concerned as to what that will look like when managing this. If I need to restore a file, will I be able to easily distinguish each machine's backup from each other? If so, why would I want to have have multiple storage vaults as an alternative?

How to backup Azure VM without shutting down for point in time recovery

Dear All,

We have a Azure VM running ADFS for office 365. I need to make some changes in the application hence would like to know if there is a way to backup it up so that I can restore if things don't work after modification. This is single node( Not in ADFS Farm) .

Would like to know the steps to achieve the same if possible without shutting down the machine.

ARM VM Backups

Hello -

I was reading that there is a "Planned" ARM VM backup.  We currently have several servers in Azure that need to be protected.  Can someone tell me when this feature will become available.  I cannot recommend moving to Azure from AWS without being able to protect the VHD files.  Any thoughts, insight, or information would greatly be appreciated

Thank you

James

Hi all,

I have:

new server 2012 R2 Standard Evaluation Edition with all the windows updates

Azure Recovery Services Agent version: 2.0.9028

Backups are failing with this error: "Latest version of Azure on Windows 2012 R2 failing with "maximum allowed size 1700"

I'm trying to backup 2.1Tbytes on a 4TByte drive (so have plenty of space for cache etc)

I thought I should be able to back up to 54TByes now?

How do you back up ReFS Volumes?

I've configured the Azure backup agent on my server (Windows Server 2012 Essentials). When I configure the backup, I only seem to be able to select my C: drive.

I suspect I cannot select my D: drive as it is configured as ReFS.

Does anyone have any ideas?

Thanks,

Phil

Restore from Azure Backup Vault

Hello,

I use Azure Backup Server to backup a number of on-premises Hyper-V VMs to Azure.
From what I've figured out Azure Backup Server only does on on-premises restores.

Is it possible to restore or a vhd to Azure Storage?

Thanks

Azure Backup Server online offline status Hyper-V VM

$

Hello,

I want to backup a number of Hyper-V VM's (2008R2 and 2012R2) on a 2012R2 Hyper-V host . When I want to add a VM to a Protection Group most off my VMs have an "Offline" status in  and some are "Online".
I  thought that VMs that are marked "Offline" in a Protection Group would enter "Save" state during a backup job, this doesn't seem to happen. During the backup I can still access a VM.

What exactly is happening to a VM that is marked "Offline" but is online during the backup job?

Thanks
HeroKee

Backup vault for ARM VMs

From David Cuevas @mrcavernvia Twitter

@AzureSupport Having trouble using BackupVault, it's unable to find my VMs though using the same region weurope.pic.twitter.com/IXE42B0PVL

Notification service show VMs found in Westeurope, when I use Vault service to register them they don´t show up.

the only difference I can find is that VMs are not classic and Vault is controlled using the old portal.

We informed the customer that ARM VMs can't be added to a classic Backup Vault.

Does this mean that I will be unable to use the service or that I should configure it using Azure CLI? Thanks

Backup for Virtual Machines created by new Resource Manager

Hello,

I have virtual machines in Azure created by both the "old" model with service manager and "new" created with Resource Manager. I have also a backup vault which works fine with the old virtual servers. Although I can't see the new ones when I run discover from the backup vault. My guess is that the new Resource manager created resources are not compatible with the current backup vault. Is that so, and do you have any suggestions on how to run backups on virtual servers instead (primarily linux but also windows)?.

Thanks!

Backup Discovery of VM created with RM deploy in New Portal

From Tim Wendland @timwendland via Twitter

Hi All.  Where do I find info on how to backup my VMs that are not of the (classic) variety?  I created a backup vault using the old portal, but can only discover (classic) VMs.

I've already been working through this post:aka.ms/809729. Backup vault creation and VM discovery doesn't seem to be working in the new portal.  I had to go back to the old portal to create a backup vault and it appears to only allow VM discovery of VMs that were created with the (classic) deploy model.  Any suggestions on how to backup VMs that were created with the Resource Manager deploy model?

Thanks,

@AzureSupport
