Hi,
We have a backup jobs that keep failing with error 0x186E3. The first full backup did actually work. The failures happen on new executions of the jobs which are supposed to only deal with data changes. Has anyone observe the same behaviour or have an idea about this issue ? (Internet access from the server is full open for http/https)
Best regards,

Customer: Hello again, Today i have a new problem! We have Microsost Azure Backup running on a server. It stopped working a couple weeks ago and from what i read online everyone said to update the agent to the newest release and this will be fixed. Well, i have done that and it has now got a new error, The backup will start and will say "Taking snapshot of volume" it did this last night for about 24hrs and then presented me with "he Microsoft Azure Recovery Services Agent cannot connect to the OBEngine service. Verify that the OBEngine service is present in the Services Control Panel and that the port 6049 is available." The service is running and the port is open in the firewall. HELP!!!
@AzureSupport: Can you please confirm if this is deployed in Azure or deployed locally? ^AL
Customer: Its installed on a local server
@AzureSupport: Also, are you backing up an ARM VM or Classic VM? ^AL
Customer: I'm not backing up a VM. We are backing up Files and Folders
@AzureSupport: Can you confirm If you are running the backup agent version 2.0.9032.0? ^AL
Customer: Yes ive said its on the most recent updated
@AzureSupport: You can use 'backup now' option and then see the results, Let us know how this goes. ^AL
Customer: I've done that. It hangs on "Taking snapshot of volumes" for hours. Then gives me the error "the Microsoft Azure Recovery Services Agent cannot connect to the OBEngine service. Verify that the OBEngine service is present in the Services Control Panel and that the port 6049 is available."
Thanks
@AzureSupport
Does Azure Backup supports - Snap short backup for Vmware Vm's ? if yes can you point me to any documentation links which shows to setup it up on Azure backup.
Thank you

I have been using the free trial for about 3 weeks now. The backups are going well and I have done some restores with success. What I want to know at this point is about what a monthly cost would be. So I went to the portal to see if there was some kind of accounting I could see.
I could find nowhere on the "Azure Dashboard" that had any kind of stats or accounting of costs. The weird thing is I want to "backup vaults" and it showed that I had none?
Am I in the wrong place? How do I figure out what this will/would cost me?

Hi,
Azure backup agent is installed on a 2012 R2 OnPrem File server. This server is using DFSR for file replication with no user access, it's just used as a central copy of branch office users data. Antivirus has been disabled and no third party software is running. Still we have the following error:
Any idea of the "various reasons" that an cause the failure ?

I am trying to install Microsoft Azure Backup Server software, which is basically a clone of DPM, on a Windows 2012 R2 Azure VM. For some reason every time I get to the agent registration portion of the installation, I get the following error:
Failed to re-enable existing scheduled backup settings. The server must be registered with Microsoft Azure Backup before this operation can be performed.
However, if I download the agent manually, I'm able to register it successfully. I tried doing that, uninstalling it, and then going into the portal and selecting the "Allow Re-registration" option, but it doesn't help. Nothing I've tried, including a full uninstall with Revo and reboot, has helped. Not even creating a new vault and trying to register there.
Any help is appreciated.
There's a corrupt backup scheduled in my azure backup that can't be modified and can't be removed. when i try to modify i get the error
"The backup policy could not be modified.
Error: "when i try to stop and remove i get the error:
"The backup policy could not be removed.
Error: The current operation failed due to an internal service error [0x27115]. Please retry the operation after sometime. If the issue persists, please contact Microsoft Support. The current operation failed due to an internal service error [0x27115]. Please

Has anyone seen these errors before?
I have Microsoft Azure Backup running on Windows 10. I am backing up a single folder (for testing) and all new files in the folder are backed up correctly. However, any changed files are not being backed up. For example, I created a document on Tuesday which is backed up to Azure on Tuesday afternoon's backup. I changed the document on Wednesday morning but the new document was not backed up on Wednesday afternoon's backup. To verify it was still backing something up I create a new document on Thursday morning and the new document was backed up Thursday but my changed document still was not backed up.
To verify it was not backed up I restored the document from the newest available backup and the file size, date modified, and content were all from the original document.
Does Azure Backup only backup new files, is this a setting, or is something wrong? Thank you for any help you can provide.
Hi, I have tried using the Azure backup service, but keep getting the error (0x1D4C2). I have looked at previous threads and suggestions on this forum, and followed that advice, but my jobs are still failing. Any help greatly appreciated. Thanks.
Getting this error in DPM console for Azure Server Backup.
We do not use Tapes or have a tape drive at Azure connected to this server.
We have plenty of disk space for backups.
Is this a bug with the software? Something left over from the DPM version and not removed from Azure Server Backup software?
Thanks,
Denise

Hi There,
Azure backups have started to fail with the above error code. The rest of the message is:
"Unable to find changes in a file. This could be due to various reasons. Please retry the operation"
The last successful backup was on the 11th April and backups have been failing ever since. No changes to the system have been made. Backup with antivirus disabled produces the same error.
The agent installed is the latest version.
Any assistance would be appreciated.
Thanks.
I'm using Hyper-V 2012R2 Cluster infrastructure at our offices and thinking of using Azure Backup as our backup +DR site.
We plan to use Azure site recovery for our critical servers so in case of total disaster we would be able to recover in near zero time the servers needed to service our customers and in case of moving to temporary secondary location, recover the rest of the servers.
Is that scenario possible? I cannot find any reference to how I'll be able to recover Azure Backup as Azure VM.
Is there a tool for us to model the expected costs according to the current server sizes and expected backup strategy?
And lastly would you recommend using Azure AD sync or using Azure site recovery to backup the domain controller?
Thanks

Hello! On ARM Recovery Services i have an error: "Backup Failed, FailureDetails:ErrorCode: DiffCopyFailedToTransferData". What does it means and how to troubleshoot it?
We provided: aka.ms/d1137882
The reason is "Another operation is currently in progress on this item. Please wait until the previous operation is completed, and then retry". I thought this backups is incremental and should be fast. Why do they takes so much times?
Thanks,
@AzureSupport
I'm using the trial version of Azure and I backed up the files/folders from a Windows server, however the daily backups are overwriting the old version of the documents. Do I not have the capabilities to keep past versions or does Azure backup only backup the latest version overwriting the previous version? Can't seem to find an article on this.
thank you,
I cannot get the Azure Backup schedule to work.
I have gone through the documentation a number of times (https://azure.microsoft.com/en-us/documentation/articles/backup-configure-vault/) and have wasted hours of my time over the past week trying to find a solution.
I found instructions on changing my script Execution Policy and done that, to no avail.
Selecting "Backup Now" in the Microsoft Azure Backup app works every time, but I cannot get the scheduled job to work. The Scheduled Task interface of Windows Server shows the job as firing and completing, but there is no acknowledgement in the Backup interface that it worked. After performing an initial manual backup, I created a new text file in the folder that I am testing with -- just in case it doesn't bother showing a result if no files were changed. No dice. I started a recovery process as well to see if maybe the file would show up there, but I don't have any recovery option for my other scheduled backup times I've attempted, just that initial manual backup.
I am trying to start a process of converting much of my company's IT infrastructure to the cloud, this was supposed to be the easy first step, but it is not an encouraging one. Can I get some assistance troubleshooting this?
Hello everyone!
I've been using Microsoft DPM to perform Azure Online backups. I have daily backups working nicely now; however, some of the protected items are quite large, and in the event of a disaster recovery scenario, it would likely take days to restore from the Online source.
Microsoft provides an Import/Export service which enables you to do your initial synchronization to an external disk; ship the disk to a Microsoft data Center; where it is imported into a storage pool, and then copied to the Backup Vault. It's explained here:
https://azure.microsoft.com/en-us/documentation/articles/storage-import-export-service/
I am mostly concerned with creating an Export Job from the Azure; having the disks shipped here; and then importing them into my local DPM environment. The instructions provided explain how to export something that is in the storage pool, but not how to get the DPM data in the Backup Vault into the storage pool.
The "Create Export Job" wizard has a screen which enables you to select the data to be exported; however, it only allows you to specify a blob path.
1. Is what I'm hoping to do supported?
2. If so, are there instructions that will explain how to export DPM backup data from Azure to disk?
Any feedback is appreciated.
Thanks!

We're using Azure to backup files every night from a server in CA that we want to recover every morning in MA. Is there any way I can run a scheduled task to copy certain files from our backup vault to a different server (not the one they were backed up from)? I will always be recovering the most recent copy (though we keep multiple copies on Azure).
I can recover the files manually but I need to know if I can schedule the job so that the files are there when I arrive every morning.
Note, we're backing up flat files only, nothing complex except that one of the files is rather large.
Thanks in advance,
Scott
Hi,
I'm setting up Microsoft Azure Backup Server and have been advised to use the Recovery Service Vault to store the online backups in.
As part of the initial online backup I need to do an offline backup and use the Azure Import / Export service to get the data transported to the Azure datacenter due to the volume of data I'm dealing with.
Following the import / export service instructions I see that I need to setup a Storage Account using the classic portal and then create an import job.
The issue that I can foresee is that fact that the classic storage account is in no way associated with the new portal Recovery Service Vault plus the instructions reference using a Classic Backup Vault and state that ARM Storage accounts are not supported.
Am I correct in assuming that the Azure Import / Export Service cannot be used with the an ARM deployed Recovery Service Vault at this time? if I'm wrong can you explain how the uploaded data gets into the ARM Recovery Service Vault or how to associate a Classic Storage Account with the ARM Recovery Service vault to facilitate the import or any other method of facilitating an Import into a Recovery Service Vault.
I've tried the process using AZCopy and the data doesn't transfer to the Recovery Service Vault as expected noting that the AZCopy method may not be supported.
Many thanks.
