Hi,

Is there possibility to configure azure backup agent to run azure desktop backup only from specific public ip?

I have a lot of laptops; which I would like to backup to azure. I would like to prevent synchronizing data from employee’s laptops, for example on cellular connection or abroad.

We have in our office fast Internet connection with static IP, and backup ought to start when protected computers are in an office

Thanks

Not sure if this is related or just a COINCIDENCE - Just implemented Azure backup and have been receiving these ERRORS sporadically for the past 3 days.  Web app servers not being backed up - not sure where the issue is. azure backup client showing no errors nor is the backup environment on the cloud - this is under web apps

Why does a backup take so much time?

From @_DeV1L_via Twitter

Hello! On ARM Recovery Services i have an error: "Backup Failed, FailureDetails:ErrorCode: DiffCopyFailedToTransferData". What does it means and how to troubleshoot it?

We provided: aka.ms/d1137882

The reason is "Another operation is currently in progress on this item. Please wait until the previous operation is completed, and then retry". I thought this backups is incremental and should be fast. Why do they takes so much times?

Thanks,

@AzureSupport

Hi, I am currently trying to connect Microsoft Operations Management Suite to my Azure Site Recovery vault (via Resource Manager). Could you explain me how to connect to ASR? The field "select your account" is blanc. The ASR and OMS are in the same subscription. Thanx.

Thanks,

First Azure Backup (unoptimized, may take more time)

About Client files and folders backup: what does "(unoptimized, may take more time)" mean ?

This appears in agent job status description, next to"Transferring data...."

By the way in 12 hours it's still at 15MB transferred (of 100GB) although available bandwidth is 512Kbps up through ADSL line used only by this Client PC.

Thanks

Can we access the storage where azure does the built in backup?

$

I have an azure sql database which has a built in point in time restore backup. The backup has a retention period so I will not be able to get backup beyond the retention period. So, I was wondering if I can access the built in backup storage and copy the appropriate backups from there.

So, can we access the storage account associated with built in backup (be it built in db backup or storage backup itself)?

Azure Backup Pricing and Recommendations

Hello!

A customer @TechMonkeys is asking questions via Twitter @TechMonkeys about what exactly is required for Azure Backup and how it is priced. The customer has explored Backup's pricing page at aka.ms/d876588

"Could your pricing be any more complex please? I just want a cloud backup, do I need an instance + data. The pricing isn't very clear."

Thank you for your assistance.

The latest Update Rollup for System Center 2012 R2 Data Protection Manager is: Update Rollup 10 for System Center 2012 R2 Data Protection Manager.

How can I install this uppdate on a Microsoft® Azure Backup Server ?

(The Update Rollup for System Center 2012 R2 Data Protection Manager does not work on Microsoft® Azure Backup Server, messagebox no product to upgrade was found).

Or is there also an Update Rollup for Microsoft® Azure Backup Server?

IaaS VM's in Azure Virtual Network (with S2S VPN is applicable) are not discoverable

I have 3x IaaS VM's in an Azure Virtual Network and the Azure Vault is created in the same region, and has the agent running.

None of the VM's are discoverable. The documentation is like on if special configuration is required for their scenario.

Any insight greatly appreciated!?

Versions of documents in Azure Backup

Hi,

Does Azure Backup support versioning?

To elaborate on this, is it possible to download different versions of the document that is being backed up on Azure. For example, if <g class="gr_ gr_335 gr-alert gr_tiny gr_spell gr_run_anim ContextualSpelling multiReplace" data-gr-id="335" id="335">i</g> set the schedule to backup "twice daily", will Azure vault retain both the copies OR it will have a single copy of the most recent update.

Thanks,

Urvashi

Scheduled backups won't start while manual backups work

From Dean Gray @SwiftDG via Twitter

Hi, I can't get a my scheduled backups to start. I'm running windows SBS 2011 the server is registered and it will do manual backups. Basically the scheduled job never runs I checked the event viewer and no attempt to a back up seems to happen.

Tried the solution mentioned here, but unfortunately this did not work:aka.ms/d1188589

Usage (for billing) unproportional to my daily backup sizes...

$
0
0

Hi,

I'm referring to "Usage you are responsible for" on the account billing page (which is ultimately what is of interest to me).

Initially, it was growing as I expected it to (and with larger backups), data compressed and all looked dandy.

Then I further optimized my backups (per one client machine) to average at 0.2 GB / day.

However then my daily usage grow kept at a steady pace of 1 GB/day (and even increasing) - while my backups were smaller and smaller.

- I have just one vault / machine on it - and nothing else, so this is the only thing contributing to that storage usage (it created active directory for me and I had one test vault which was removed, not used - that's all on my azure portal really)

- client agent jobs are showing small increments for daily backups - 100MB to 400MB max, or ~0.2GB/day

- and I took snapshots of my usage ("usage you are responsible for") which clearly show totally unrelated growth of ~1GB/day

- on the other side my vault's "Total storage consumed in Azure" is behaving reasonably and showing exactly as it should and as my client backups indicate (so it's couple times larger than the above but moves at a much smaller increments proportional to my local backups)

- I'm using geo redundancy for the vault - but I'm assuming that's being reflected in the price per GB - not the total storage size ?

- also I had couple restores (download activity) to test the thing but as I'm reading it that shouldn't count for anything (or at least not related to the storage)

So, tell me if I need to take this with the support and create an issue there - or if this is expected in some ways, though I can't see how it could be.

I'm expecting the usage and calculations (and consequently the billing) to be clear and something I could calculate up front as to know what to expect e.g. 180 days from now given my retention and backups. This way I have no idea what it's going to be.

I'm currently just testing one machine but depending on that we plan to be using this on a dozen machines and possibly more. So even this, sizes and prices may be negligible now it's not on the grand scheme of things.

Thanks !

Dragan

P.S.

In one of your posts here (https://social.msdn.microsoft.com/Forums/azure/en-US/ae41c2f5-0d6a-4f1e-ba72-7197c4707aee/final-word-on-compression-yes-or-no?forum=windowsazureonlinebackup)

You say the following ...

"The size of the data located in online storage is going to be a sum of all recovery points sent to date, minus ones that have been deleted based on retention goal"

which is what I'm expecting, but it's not what I'm getting

Setting frequency of SQL server 2014 backups

$

From Raj (@RajSenap) via Twitter who tweets:

“Hi, I am setting up an SQL Managed backup for SQL Server 2014. It is mentioned in msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/… that he type of backups scheduled and the backup frequency is determined based on the workload of the database. Is there any further information available on this? What and how the type of workload affects the frequency? It is mentioned that the default is weekly, but there is no mention about which day of the week the backup will happen? Is it possible to schedule the backup to run at night / Sundays? I find there is a procedure managed_backup.sp_backup_config_schedule (Transact-SQL) available - but is this only for SQL Server 2016?”

Appreciate if you may be able to assist the customer on this matter.

Azure Backup Schedule Doesn't Work in Task Scheduler - Server 2008 SP2

$

The Scheduled task that's created all looks right. In fact, it shows success but it does not actually back anything up.

Even though it claims to have completed successfully in Task Scheduler, when I open the Azure Backup Agent on the server, the last backup is the manual backup I performed. (When I hit "Back Up Now" the backup runs and works as expected.)

Looking for specific insight on why the scheduled task does not work as expected. Any advice is appreciated.
