DPM 2016 Update Rollups on Azure Backup Server
Unable to delete resources
Hello, I have worked with Azure support via twitter to set up a one time support session, that we were not able to get working, so they prompted me to create this post here. We have several machines that are in our resources in Azure back up, and are no longer in service, and need to be deleted out of our resources. Following the process of deletion does not work for some reason, so assistance is required to be able to make this happen. It has, and can generate 60+ tickets in a single day for these machines, and we are needing to be able to remove resources as needed for future changes as well. All help in this matter is greatly appreciate.

The SQL server has connectivity to the Internet. I assume, however, that I need some inbound ports opened?? Can you advise?

Host Level Backup not Working for One VM in MABS
Hi
We have MABS installed and use it to back up our VMs at the host level.
This is working fine for all VMs except for one.
The error it gives is:
"
- Affected area:RCT\GBYOR-XXXXX
Occurred since:18/10/2018 10:01:33
Description:The replica of Microsoft Hyper-V RCT\GBYOR-XXXXX on GBYOR-XXXXX.Cluster.domain.com is inconsistent with the protected data source. All protection activities for data source will fail until the replica is synchronized with consistency check. You can recover data from existing recovery points, but new recovery points cannot be created until the replica is consistent.
For SharePoint farm, recovery points will continue getting created with the databases that are consistent. To backup inconsistent databases, run a consistency check on the farm. (ID 3106)

I've looked up this error, and suggestions are to run DiskShadow /L c:\temp\output.txt
list writers
exit
And examine the output.txt file for '\\' which should lead to any invalid image names that need correcting.
I've tried this on the VM and the Hyper-V host that it is on, however there is nothing in the output.txt files that need fixing.
I've tried the following troubleshooting:
- Restarting the VM
- Restarting the Hyper-V host
- Restarting the MABS server
- Removing the VM from the protection group and deleting the data already held for it in the backup destination, and then adding it back to the protection group
Backups in MABS at the guest level for 'All Volumes' and 'System Protection' work fine for the VM.
Any ideas?
Azure Backup Server - Query
My current production Azure Backup Server (v11.0.50.0) required me to use the below steps in order to automatically add new SQL databases to both the local storage and online protection. Without calling these power shell scripts, new databases would
be added to the local storage backup but it would have been a manual process to add them to online protection.
I am in the process of setting up a Microsoft Azure Backup Server v2 (12.0.332.0) server. Are the below steps still required or has this 'issue' been resolved?
============================
Each SQL server must be protected by its own ABS protection group
Autoprotect option must be disabled
Script will automatically add new databases for both disk and online protection
Must hardcode protection group, SQL server name and SQL instance in script
Note: Need separate script for each SQL server/instance
How to manually add new SQL databases to disk and online protection?
Note:
These Powershell scripts are scheduled to run daily.
Each script can only point to a single SQL instance.
Put script in bin folder
Open 'Microsoft Azure Backup Server Management Shell'
Confirm path is set to 'E:\Microsoft Azure Backup\DPM\DPM\bin'
Type one of the following:
.\AutoProtectSQLWithOnline_PCBS1-DNNSQL1.ps1
.\AutoProtectSQLWithOnline_PCBS1-SQL.ps1
.\AutoProtectSQLWithOnline_PCBS1-SQLSTG1.ps1
**************************
***Setup Task Scheduler***
**************************
Name = AutoProtect_PCBS1-SQLSTG1
Run whether user is logged on or not = ABSScript
Trigger = Daily 11:45 PM (a few hours before actual backup)
Action = Start a program
Program/script = powershell
Add Argument = -file "E:\Microsoft Azure Backup\DPM\DPM\bin\AutoProtectSQLWithOnline_PCBS1-SQLSTG1.ps1"

Kindly advise .
Run Pre/Post script for Windows VM Backups in Azure
I am running a database software called Caché by Intersystems in Azure that requires the database to be quiesced before we can run a VM Snapshot. However, none of the native backup solutions provided by Azure provide the ability to run a Pre/Post scripts on Windows VM's so that we can quiesce the database. How can I get around this?
Are there PowerShell commands that can run on-demand backups every day? If so, would a retention policy be followed?
Storage block allocation error in Azure Server Backup
Azure VM Backup - File-system consistent and application consistent
Hi,
We enabled backup for a VM in azure which has Oracle DB installed and backup works fine as per the below:
The Oracle DB admin is complaining with below issue:
I can also observe frequent network disconnections while I am working on RDP session for this host.
Is anyone trying to take the backup for this host? I see in the event logs that Oracle DB Backup operation was triggered at 02:26 AM today. Please check if someone is triggering the backup

Is Azure VM backup doing an application level backup for Oracle? As far as I know it only does Full VM backup..what could be the root cause of the issues he complains about?
The VM OS is Windows 2012 R2 and the user connects to the VM via RDP session from inside the company premises (there is an IPSec site to site VPN between on-premise and Azure subscription)

Reporting for on-site to azure backups
We have a number of Microsoft Azure Backup Servers which backup virtual servers from VMWare on site to Azure.
At the moment we have to log on to each server and run the console to check the status of the backups. We would like to have a way to have the status reported to a central point. How can we do this? Via Log Analytics?
I note the web site has several references to such reporting which is 'coming soon'.
Just to re-iterate, I am talking about on-site to Azure backups here , not backups of servers running in Azure.
Thanks.
Azure VM Extensions
How can I use VM Extensions to run an automation script every time a VM starts up?
I would like to run a script upon reboot that retrieves an encryption key from a secure location and places the key in a specific directory. The script can't live on the VM because it will contain credentials for retrieving the encryption key from the secure location.

Trouble creating linux backup
Hi,
I'm trying with little success to enable a backup on a Linux server I have running in Azure.
The server was uploaded as a VHD, not created from the Azure marketplace.
Linux version is Ubuntu 14.04 and has internet access
I have the following WALinuxAgent running:
WALinuxAgent-2.2.20 running on ubuntu 14.04
Python: 3.4.3
Goal state agent: 2.2.32.2
However I get the following error when trying to create the backup in the portal:
VM agent is unable to communicate with the Azure Backup Service
Code is: UserErrorGuestAgentStatusUnavailable
In the waagent log there is this error:
ERROR Event: name=WALinuxAgent, op=Provision, message=[ProvisionError] Giving up, ovf-env.xml was not copied to /var/lib/waagent/ovf-env.xml after 1800s, duration=0
There seems to be very little about this error when I search on Google for it in a backup context.
Any help would be very much appreciated.
Thanks
Scott

Cannot backup Hyper-V on Windows Server 2016
Hello,
I have problem with backing up our hyper-v host with 14 VMs into Azure Backup.
I have created the service in Azure, then it gave me the link onto Azure Backup Server. So I installed it on the WS 2016 Hyper-V host and everything was going smooth and without any error. After installation I opened administration console of Azure Backup Server then on Protection select New Group. It askes me if I want to protect servers or client so I select servers then with my hyper-v host shows (with purple icon). So I can select to protect System Protection, Shares, SQLs and there is also option Hyper-V. Problem is that when I check the Hyper-V option, it shows me error dialog with ID 31313 and following text:
One or more prerequisites for protecting this data source is missing.
Ensure that the following prerequisite software is installed on samit-playground.ad.samitsolutions.com:

If you have already installed the required prerequisite, refresh the agent status in the management tab and try again.

I have have all system updates installed via Windows Update. Tried to restart the server but the situation is the same.
Can anybody help me with that?
Thanks a lot. Ondrej
