Hello everoyne,

After speaking to technical support who are apparently unable to assit with a License issue they suggested i try here. We have two customers that were on a free trial subscription of azure now they decided to keep the server so we purchased some VLS credits and applied them to the account but we are unable to assign (can not find a way) the credits to the trial vaults so now the free trial has expired and the customer is not getting a back. Hopefully someone can help!

Thank You

Hi,

I have created a web app in azure for which I am not able to use Authentication / Authorization.

Below message is seen in the portal

To enable Authentication / Authorization please ensure all your custom domains have corresponding SSL bindings .net version is configured to “4.5” and manage pipeline mode is set to “Integrated”

here, my web app has a self signed SSL certification and 4.6 .net version and manage pipeline in set to Integrated.

please advice

Why Azure backup grows every day for a month if you only save 10 restore points?

$

I have configured on a Windows Server 2012 client copies of Azure so only keep 10 points of restoration (one point per day).

The problem is that takes nearly a month only keeping 10 restore points but every day the copy space increases about 500Gb.
So it takes almost a month, with 10 points and increasing the space consumed in Azure 500Gb.
I have reviewed the customer data on the server and the disk space consumed server has only increased 40Mb in a month.

Because every day increases the space occupied in Azure? Never stops and the copy is only 10 days.

Full Backups at Azure Backup

Hi,

The scenario is the following:

SCDPM 2012 R2.

A customer needs to save/store full backups at azure backup.

The datasources are: BMR, Exchange, SQL, Hyper-V Virtual Machines, File Servers

The question is:

What kind of backups are saved/stored at azure?(full? incremental? both?)

Thanks!

Waiting for Azure Import Job to Complete

$

I have followed all the steps involved in shipping in the initial backup to Microsoft. The drive was received and has since been returned. When I log into Azure I can see the container that i created and referenced in the backup job as well as another container that has been created when the data was imported form the drive. The container I created appears to contain the backup that I shipped in.

All the documentation seems to suggest that once the import job has been completed, the Azure client will initiate the data being transferred over to the vault and then continue with the backup. This has not been the case. In the Azure backup client it says that it is "Waiting for the Azure import job to complete."

I have seen suggestions to delete the job and recreate it or even uninstall and reinstall the client. This I fear will cause more problems rather than resolve the issue. Does anyone have some suggestions on the best way forward on this?

Thanks,

JPM.

An internal error prevented the modification of the backup policy. (ID 100010)

Hi,

I've installed Azure Backup some time ago. Initially the creation of the online recovery points worked.

After update the MARS agent and adding more servers this fails. Error message is "An internal error prevented the modification of the backup policy. (ID 100010)". I've just updated to MARS version 2.0.8724.0. Same error.

The subscription registration seems to be ok.

Backup fails. Why? Who knows!

Installed Azure Backup on a server. It's been failing all month. What is the fishing expedition I need to engage in in order to find out about it? Which one of the hundreds of Event Viewers do I need to waste my time sifting through to find out because the backup software itself is absolutely USELESS in telling me what's wrong. It says "Status Failed" and that's it! How useful... Nothing I like doing more than going through the wonderful Event Viewer and spending my whole day trying to figure out what I'm supposed to take notice of.

Do I have to worry about expiring certificates?

Back in the "old days", before registration with "vault credentials" was available, you had to create your own certificate (makecert) and upload it to the Azure portal to register a server.

I still have a few servers which were registered this way. The certificates I created back then will expire in a few months.

Do I have to worry about that? Will backup stop working when the certificate expires or was the certificate only required for initial registration?

Thanks, best regards
Heinzi

Microsoft Azure Backup - Alert - A newer version of Microsoft Azure Recovery Services is available

I keep getting the alert "A newer version of Microsoft Azure Recovery Services is available" in Wbadmin.  I've downloaded and installed MarsAgentInstaller serveral times and rebooted each time.  Alert is generated everytime I do an online backup.

Backup seems to be working but why won't it update?  I'm running Win 2012 R2 Essentials.

Any thoughts?

Azure Backup cbengine.exe consuming high memory utilisation

Hi there

Got Azure backup running from Server 2012 r2 to Azure cloud.  What is happening is that every second day I get a call from the customer stating they are not able to access database on server.  When investigate it was found that the cbengine.exe process memory usage has grown to the point that the server databases become unresponsive.

I have upgraded to the latest Azure backup agent and still this problem.

Any ideas welcome

azurebackup certificate due to expire - Will my backups be affected?

I have a SBS server with Microsoft Azure Backup backing up up a set of files and folders at a set point every night. I have a certificate for azurebackup that is due to expire at the start of December at which point I believe that my backups will stop working. Is anyone able to confirm this?

The certificate was created two years ago.

I believe in order to continue backups running I need to download the vault credentials associated with the backup vault in Azure and register the server using these credentials. Can anyone confirm if this is the case as currently this has not been carried out to the best of my knowledge. If anyone has any further information can you please provide some further insight into how to make sure the backups are not stopped?

Many Thanks,

Derrick

Azure Agent job stuck "Preparing storage..." forever

$

Recently had a server using Azure Backup for months, but disk space ran short on the C:, the unfortunate default location for the cache. Followed the suggestion of uninstalling and reinstalling using a new path for the Cache, and the install went fine.

BUT, any attempt at running a backup job gets stuck at an early step of "Preparing storage..." forever (I've only let it sit there for an hour, not building any data in the Cache or continuing).  Canceling doesn't happen cleanly either, have to stop the Microsoft Azure Recovery Services Agent service, which crashes the job and GUI.

Also can't completely clear out the old Cache location from the C: drive since it claims the temporary .vhd files are "in use" by the System.

Any suggestions would be appreciated since I really don't want to have to completely wipe out existing backed up data in order to really startover (continue was my hope) using Azure Backup or switch to something else.

Small environment so it isn't worth the cost of paying for support, since support isn't included.

Azure Backup Install error

Replaced the drive that Azure backup was installed on originally without uninstalling the app first.

It will not let me reinstall. Is there a manual process that can be done to remove the old information first so that it can be reinstalled.

When I try to reinstall it assumes the E drive and then says the agent has already been installed.

Here is the Installer log:

Unable to delete backup vault

I'm unable to delete backup vault because "You cannot delete vault cove because it contains registered servers. Delete the servers and the restore points for the server data, and then delete the vault". According to this http://itprocentral.com/how-to-delete-a-backup-vault-in-azure/ you just visit registered items first but for me it's empty. I've tried clicking discover but am told the vault is in a different region to the VM. But the dashboard does indicate there is a registered server with backed up data, I only have 1 VM. In the VM backup agent I stopped the scheduled backup and said yes to deleting all backups, still has not helped.

projection of the needed backup space

Hello,

I try to estimate how much I will pay per month in one year. I haven't found any formula made for this service to calculate how my backup storage will grow (are full backup really full, dedup?, etc...)

Let's take these assumptions:

  • For 10GB
  • Backup each day at 12:15 and 23:00
  • Policy: 7 last days, 4 last Sundays, last day of the 12 last months
  • Assumption: 1% data change rate per day

How space will I use in one year?

My bet:

Data 10GB*(1 + Daily change 1%*7 Days +  Weekly Change 5%*4 Weeks + Monthly Change 15%*12 Months)

(the 5% and the 15% are purely estimation, which are surely false)

Thanks a lot

Cannot register Azure Backup Agent

I've been using Azure backup agent with no problems. Then I got an error and backups were not getting done, service not registered. I've downloaded new vault credentials and attempted to register the server, error below.  I've uninstalled / reinstalled Azure Backup, again got the error below. I'm using Windows Server 2012 - any suggestions?

I continue to get the following message after attempting to register the server.

Failed to re-enable existing scheduled backup settings. The server must be registered with Microsoft Azure Backup before this operation can be performed.

Azure Engine crashing

After a few teething problems I got my Azure backups working but over the last few days they have failed and it seems like the application is crashing.  I got this in the vent log

Faulting application name: cbengine.exe, version: 2.0.8704.0, time stamp: 0x5508396d

Faulting module name: KERNELBASE.dll, version: 6.1.7601.18798, time stamp: 0x5507b87a

Exception code: 0x809909c2

Fault offset: 0x000000000001aaad

Faulting process id: 0x348

Faulting application start time: 0x01d07d059a489a85

Faulting application path: C:\Program Files\Microsoft Azure Recovery Services Agent\bin\cbengine.exe

Faulting module path: C:\Windows\system32\KERNELBASE.dll

Report Id: 28f432ba-e9ad-11e4-bfcb-0050569561d0

Another event log references this location

These files may be available here:

C:\ProgramData\Microsoft\Windows\WER\ReportQueue\AppCrash_cbengine.exe_ad76b2d58c68addf6d1be2d9cbc82d60744fc0_2e514f75

However that location doesn;'t exist for me, there is a similar one under my profile under AppDatazLocal but not the same and not reference to the cbengine

Any help would be appreciated

Thanks

Barry

PS I pulled the error logs on this and here's an etract from the very end

Install VM Agent for VM

Hi All,

For some reason my extension on the VM Agent is gone.

So I installed the MSI for the agent and I tried to set it to true so Azure sees the VM Agent.

The the next message appears:

No default subscription has been designated. Use Select-AzureSubscription -Default <subscriptionName>

So I tried to set it with the subscription name and subscription ID. The error i'm see is:

Select-AzureSubscription : Parameter set cannot be resolved using the specified named parameters.

    + CategoryInfo          : InvalidArgument: (:) [Select-AzureSubscription], ParameterBindingException
    + FullyQualifiedErrorId : AmbiguousParameterSet,Microsoft.WindowsAzure.Commands.Profile.SelectAzureSubscriptionCom
   mand

I know for sure that i'm using ther right subscription.

Hope someone can help.

Regards,

Fabian

Azure Backup Agent quiet mode (/q) installation doesn't work on Windows Server 2008 R2 SP1

Azure Backup Agent quiet mode (/q) installation doesn't work on a Windows Server 2008 R2 SP1 VM installed from Azure Gallery.

When I issue the MARSAgentInstaller.exe /q command, simply nothing happens. However, if I issue just MARSAgentInstaller.exe, then interactive install correct.

For a big client project, we really need quiet mode installation.

Please notice that we already acknowledged  https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/2934202 .

PLEASE HELP!

Thanks,

Antonio
