Azure Recovery Services - Registering a VM (version1) to a Backup Vault Fails to Register

$

I am able to create a backup vault.   Backup vault is in same region as virtual machines.   I can discover virtual machines.  However when I attempt to register the virtual machine, the agent is created and if fails with:

Microsoft Azure Backup encountered an internal error.

Wait for a few minutes and then try the operation again. If the issue persists, contact Microsoft Support.

The result is the same after trying a number of times over a number of days.   It does not matter if the attempt to register is done through Azure Management Portal or Azure PowerShell cmdlets.  Result is same.

According to documentation this can happen due to the following (however none of these apply to the virtual machine being registered).

1) a premium LRD.

2) multi NIC

3) Load balancer (internal and internet-facing)

Any assistance will be appreciated.

Scheduled Azure backup stopped working

I had successfully working scheduled Azure backup tasks (3 days in a week), but after the mandatory update of Azure Backup agent to version 2.0.8719.0, it doesn’t work anymore. The task runs for several hours until the timeout.

On demand backup seem to be working OK, so the connection with Azure should be also working. Any idea how to make the scheduled tasks working again? I am using Sever 2012 Foundation and backup some data folders.

Thanks for help,

Jan.

Incorrect Dates in Recover Data Wizard

$

When I recover data on my Azure Windows Server, it shows the incorrect file dates and sizes in the wizard (an older version than expected). This is happening for many dates and files I've tried in the restore.

The files appear to be being backed up fine and the resulting restored file shows the expected file date and size. I've updated to the latest version of the Azure Backup tool as of last night. The backups all show successful with data being backed up. There are no errors in the Event Viewer CloudBackup category.

Has anyone experienced the same issue?

Limits of Azure backup

Hello.  I see from the Azure Backup FAQs that the service permits 50 on prem servers per vault and 25 vaults per  subscription. This is quite a lot,  but what are my options if I need more?  Is it possible to increase the maximum number of vaults beyond 25 (maybe by requesting it via support )? If not,  what could i do?   Thanks for any advice.

Will deleting a server from the backup vault actually delete my VM?

$

I accidently setup Azure Backup on my Azure VM using the desktop version of the Microsoft Azure Backup Client. Thus, I registered the VM as a Windows Server (rather than a VM). I also did not see how to set up geo redundancy along the way. So, I think I need to start over. However, it looks like I can't unregister the server without deleting it. I do not want to delete my VM.

Will "deleting" the registered Windows Server (which is actually my Azure VM) from the Azure Backup Vault actually delete my VM?

Thanks!

azurebackup certificate due to expire - Will my backups be affected?

I have a SBS server with Microsoft Azure Backup backing up up a set of files and folders at a set point every night. I have a certificate for azurebackup that is due to expire at the start of December at which point I believe that my backups will stop working. Is anyone able to confirm this?

The certificate was created two years ago.

I believe in order to continue backups running I need to download the vault credentials associated with the backup vault in Azure and register the server using these credentials. Can anyone confirm if this is the case as currently this has not been carried out to the best of my knowledge. If anyone has any further information can you please provide some further insight into how to make sure the backups are not stopped?

Many Thanks,

Derrick

Recovery Services Agent detected file corruption, 0x086C7

Hello,

I've been receiving this error for the past while whenever one of our servers tries to backup to Azure:

Microsoft Azure Recovery Services Agent has detected file corruption when verifying the latest backup. A new recovery point could not be created. The next backup will attempt to transfer the data again. If the issue persists, contact Microsoft support (0x086C7)

I'm rather concerned about this, it has been several months since this server has been able to backup properly, and I've been working myself to no end on this among other things and fixing this will help my stress levels. If there is anything I need to provide to fix this, I will gladly do so. I'd appreciate a quick response what with winter coming, thank you.

Could not communicate with the VM agent for snapshot status. Snapshot VM sub task timed out.

Hello All,

I have created 6 VM's and got the VM's registered to the Backup vault by installing the MARSInstaller. I have configured backup policies but the backup are failing with the below error

Could not communicate with the VM agent for snapshot status. Snapshot VM sub task timed out

I have restarted the VM and also can confirm the VM agent is in running status. Even I re-registered the VM tried a manual backup but of no help.

Could anyone suggest why the backups are failing.

Anup

No way to backup data stored on a mapped drive???

I have data that I want to back up that is on a storage server on my network, but not on the c drive of the computer running the Azure Backup.  The interface only seems to let me select from resources local to the computer running the backup?  Is that right? I even tried mapping the storage location on my LAN to a local drive on that computer. Didn't help!?

Total Storage Consumed

Hello everyone!

We are trying out Microsoft Azure Backup, using a Vault in Recovery Services to backup Files & Folders on a local Windows server.

I have registered the server and created a backup plan. The backup runs as smooth as possible. I like it!

Then I completed my testing, and removed the backup job on the local Windows server.  It gave me a successful result.

However, when I log into the Azure portal, I can see on the dashboard that 1.89GB is still being consumed.  I would have assumed that would be deleted when I killed the backup job, having selected "Stop using this backup schedule and delete all of the stored backups".

Does it simply take more time to sync? Or is there something else I need to do to clear out that vault?  I'd rather not delete the vault and have to go through the process of re-registering my servers.

TIA!

VNet NSGs for Azure Backup

I have a VNet that I would like to use Azure Backup with. However, I need to only open the specific ports with source and destination. I've read that I need to allow 443 outbound, but that the destination address was the entire Azure IP range...that can;t be right.

I'm looking for the specific ingress and egress rules for a VM in an NSG to communicate with Azure Backup, and only Azure Backup.

Thanks

Slow Performance for Azure Backup

We're trying to back up a virtual on-prem 2012R2 server using Azure backup.  There are two data volumes on a Storsimple 7000.  Total data is about 6 Tb.  The backup ran for 4 days and never finished.  Looking at stats "destination usage", that had not changed for over 24 hours.  The volume isn't in use right now by end users, just seeded with data in preparation of an upcoming server migration. We have a 1 Gb ExpressRoute connection to Azure from the office, with about 2 ms latency.  There is little other traffic on that link at this time.

I cancelled the backup and tried to do a small one, just to see if it would finish.  45 minutes into it, it still hasn't even started.  It is still "estimating size of backup items."

I've seen a few other posts about slow performance but no real answers on a solution.  When we initially tested Azure backup, it worked fine for a couple small backup and restore jobs.  Is the problem too many files and folders?  Any registry settings to tweak, anything like that?  Performance like this is a deal breaker.

Thanks,

Azure Backup Agent Error - Contact Support

$

I am looking for any advise out there on a error I am getting with the Azure Backup Agent.

A few weeks ago, my free subscription expired and was automatically disabled. I subsequently contacted support and got the service re-enabled in the Azure portal.

Since this time, I have been getting an error on the Azure Backup Agent every time I open it, stating that 'A Problem has occurred with Azure' and 'please contact Microsoft Support' if the problem persists. The Backup Agent will not let me do anything, it is completely locked out (listing no jobs or other options to be able to click on), however it keeps on running every day and I am unable to stop it.

Upon logging a support request via the Azure portal, I have been informed that I need to purchase a support package to be able to receive any technical support.

I have tried searching the usual forums, and have not been able to find anything in regards to this specific problem.

I am posting here in the hope that someone can advice me on how to resolve the error, or alternately how to get someone from Microsoft to respond to me without it costing me an additional $40 per month.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Can't get backup working again

I have a server which Azure backup was working on well on.

It started failing because of scratch disk space. Resolved that.

Now I can't get the backup going again - it keeps on failing with:

Error: The encryption passphrase stored for this computer is incorrectly configured. Ensure that the encryption passphrase is configured properly.

I've ensured the client is fully up to date, re-registered the server. Removed it from the vault, then re-registered it, restarted the server.

It all looks good until I run a backup. I'm pulling my hair out.

Azure backup is great on paper, but it's costing a lot of time in setup and keeping it running.
