Virtual Server 2005 SP1 required to install Azure Backup Agent on Win2008 (non R2)

$

I am attempting to install Windows Azure backup agent (2.0.8719.0) on a Windows 2008 Enterprise  (Non R2) server.  During the installation the installer shows that Microsoft Virtual Server 2005 R2 SP1 - Enterprise Edition is a required install.

Why is this?

This is a physical server with no Virtual or Hyper-V roles.

Hi,

I noticed that all my recent backups have started failing. There is no indication as to what the problem may be and I found no error codes that I could look up.

Here is what I pulled from the log:

Granular/Application restore Linux/Windows machines

$

Hi everyone, I have a question about azure backup.

As I read here

https://azure.microsoft.com/en-us/documentation/articles/backup-introduction-to-azure-backup/

it seems that there are no possibilities to protect a Linux machine. But somewhere else I read that Azure Backup is able to protect also Linux vm...so I'm a little bit confuse. I've tryed to figure out with some supposition...but I'm not sure about that.

Suppose I want to backup some machine hosted in my on-premises datacenter (no backup azure->azure)

(1) virtual machines hosted on hyper-v server

-> it can backup both windows and linux machine in consistent way (windows vss and linux file system consistency)

(2) virtual machine hosted on vmware server

-> threated as physical machine

(3) physical machine

-> is it possible only with powershell (no GUI interface) and installing an agent inside the windows machine

-> it is VSS consistent

-> linux machines are not supported

In any case for windows machine there is the possibility to do a file-level-restore but NOT an application item restore (for example an Exchange/Sharepoint object)

I would be truly grateful if someone could explain me well.

Thank you very much

FromDražen Petrek @dpetrek via Twitter

Hi, I've installed Microsoft Azre Backup to Windows 2008 R2 physical server and it works, except scheduling. Backup runs when "Back Up Now" is manually invoked but does not work on schedule - does not even start then. How to troubleshoot this?

We provided customer withaka.ms/d948483

Thank you for your help, is this a known bug in Azure Backup Agent?
Is there solution available for this?

Customer was sent the documentation on  https://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/ccb4ce6a-c7f4-4282-afdb-0baed98ef650/azure-recovery-services-agent-upgrade-wizard-fails-to-install-fatal-error?forum=windowsazureonlinebackup however this did not help the customer

The customer also added: “I have uninstalled the software as suggested by the forum and when i have tried to install the new software i got the same error, although it does seem to have re installed the previous version i had on. I am now getting the following error when i try to register my machine. 'The local certificate store does not have a valid registration certificate for this server. (ID:34510)”

Operation Failure (0X1D4C2)

After installing on my windows server 2012R2. I created my initial backup, schedule, and retention. I then go to start the backup and it fails immediately with Operation Failure 0X1D4C2 within the Azure Backup App. The application log has one informational post, see below. Some posts indicate that I need to throttle the backups, I tried, this does not work either. Also Symantec is not installed. I have the same app installed on my other server and it is currently backing up. So it must be something specific to this machine or azure. Perhaps some type of security issue? This backup option will prove useless if this cannot be resolved.

Micosoft Azure Alert issue & backup issue

Hi There,

We are using Microsoft Azure backup service for our off-site backup.

Issue #1 During last two weeks we saw an alert :

A newer version of Microsoft Azure Recovery Services Agent is avilable now.

1. We did install the update correctly, then reboot our server once but the alert still there.

2. We uninstall Microsoft Azure recovery service & re-install it again then reboot the server. But the alert still there.

So is there any other solution we can try to get rid of this alert?

Issue #2 During this week, we saw three times that "Job Completed with warnings".

1. I checked the logs located at "C:\Program Files\Microsoft Azure Recovery Services Agent\Temp", most problem is " CATALOG FAILURE        0x80131500"

2. I did some review for this issue from this form & other related form. This issue can be reolved from Microsoft Azure server end. But there is nonthing related to local server end.

So is there anything i should do on our server end at the moment ?

Thanks for any valuable suggestions!!

Azure Backup does not backup as scheduled

Hi Everyone,

I wonder someone could help me with basic Azure files and folder backup setup on Server 2008 R2. I installed Azure Backup Agent on Server 2008 R2 to with the intention of Backing up files and folders to the Azure backup vault. When I do a manual backup it backs up fine but it does not backup as per the schedule. Windows Task scheduler shows event was successful. No logs on Jobs on the Azure backup agent console or Azure portal.

I have signed up for the Azure trial and 10days already gone and I am disappointed that I still could not get this working. Sorry to say that I am not receiving enough help. Is there a phone number to call in UK?

It is much appreciated if you could please help me resolve this problem?

Thanks

scheduled job does not run

we have configured an Azure backup schedule to run daily at 7pm.  When we check the application it shows no backup job and no errors, but shows the next job as due later that day. If I tell it to backup now, it runs perfectly.  Event viewer show no activity at the scheduled time either.

I have removed the backup job, and created a new one but the same result. Installed the latest app too with no difference.

how do we find out why it is not running on schedule?

Failed to set the encryption key for secure backups

I have 3 vm's where I have created a selfsigned certificate, and uploaded it to the backup vault. 2 of the servers register without any issues, and backup works as intended. But the last server(2012) fails when registering the server With Azure backup. It finds the backup vault without any issues, but fails at the last part(Server Registration).

"Failed to set the encryption key for secure backups.

Activation did not succeed completly but the encryption passphrase was saved to the follwing file: ..

The current operation failed due to an internal service error [0x1FBD2]."

I have tried several times to delete the certificate and recreate it and uploading it again, not sure why it is failing. Can't seem to find any info in the event log either.

Any thoughts?

Azure Backup - ERROR 0x07EF9

Hi,

Does anyone knows what 0X07EF9 error code stands for? I have deployed a backup agent on the machine and I am unable to complete the initial backup.

I have searched the internet and this forum for this error message and tried all suggestions, however it does not solve my problem. Below are the steps I have already performed and checked:

  1. Tried backing up non-system drive
  2. This is the only backup solution in place (link)
  3. I am using latest agent version (link1link2, link3)
  4. Tried deleting registration in portal and re-registering server
  5. Tried elevating backup agent as administrator
  6. Tried disabling antivirus (Kaspersky) (link1link2link3)
  7. Moved Scratch to separate partition

I have filtered out CBEngineCurr.errlog file for lines were Level != 'NORMAL' and got below:

Azure Backup Failed to discover new items

Hello!

Our team has been assisting Azure customer @codejrod with an issue when VM's are failing to be discovered. After a few attempts to solve the issue, the customer is still having difficulties with the following:

"Getting 'Failed to discover new items.' for a day now when trying to use discover for Backup Vault.

Customer was provided the following documentation: http://aka.ms/f950050 and http://aka.ms/fwrnd.

Customer indicates that VM's were created in the classic portal and did not use any VM2's. Customer has also tried to delete and recreat the VM in the same region.

Thank you for your help!

Recover hyper-v virtual machine

I backed up a hyper-v virtual machine using the Azure Backup Server. I go to Recovery > All Protected HyperV Data select the hyper v backup. Under Recoverable Item I see vhdx items for the virtual machine. I right click the item select Recover. The Recovery Wizard tells me Note that the selected recovery element is a VHD and not the virtual machine. How do I recover the virtual machine? I don't see this option anywhere. Is it supported?

I have a backup vault created with one registered and protected Azure VM. I am wanting to register another Azure VM, which is not listed when selecting register.

When doing a discovery it fails saying to try again later or contact support if this persists.

Everything is in the same region. Not sure what the issue could be.

Azure backup error 0x07EF9

Hi,

I have a Windows Server 2012 R2 with the latest Azure backup client on it (as of Feb 5th 2016) which is continually failing to back up. I have checked the scratch directory for double backslashes, made sure it has enough space, that the AV is not interfering and tried backing up different data but the backup fails with the same error.

Checking the engine log gives this error (which seems to indicate a communications error, even though the firewall doesn't list any blocked communications from the server when the backup runs.)
