HI - We are backing up some clients to Azure backup vault with the backup agent on the client machine. Problem is the backup agent won't run unless the user is an admin on the machine. Is there any way around this, this is a security issue for us.

thanks

Migration protected DPM machines to Microsoft Azure Backup Server

Hello,

here is a scenario:

We have DPM server in our domain which is protecting dozen of machines. Now we are about to implement Microsoft Azure Backup Server but when I try to add server to protect in MABS Im getting an error saying that dpm agent can only point to one dpm server.

Now Im wondering if there will be any damage if I just make unistall from dpm, remove the agent and install it on MABS.

Did anyone have similar scenario, and how did you manage it?

Files and Folders backup: offline seeding clarification

$

Before planning a real backup of files and folders from my customer's on-premises Windows Server 2012 with offline seeding, I have set up and performed afake offline backup from on-premises W10 Pro Client. As this attempt was just a test I won't send the disk to Microsoft, therefore I'm going to cancel this import job process, successfully created and visible inside the Classic Portal.

Everything worked well following the available documentation through these steps:

  • New ARM backup vault
  • New Storage account with CLASSIC deployment, although created from new portal
  • Download latest agent with credentials, agent installed and registered
  • Backup configured (folders, schedule and retention)
  • Backup performed on local transient folder, Disk generated using new utility AzureOfflineBackupDiskPrep

So far so good. Now I have some doubts about what exactly would happen at the time Microsoft would import Disk data into my classic Storage account/container.

Here I read from a user question answered by the staff:

Q:Since the ARM storage accounts are not supported yet for the Import/Export Service, can I import the data to a Classic (ASM) storage account and then have the Azure backup agent copy the data to the Azure Backup vault that was created in ARM?

A:Yes, you can import the data to a Classic (ASM) storage account and have it seed your initial backup data using Offline seeding. The Agent would copy the data from the storage account to the Azure Backup vault created in ARM (a.k.a Recovery Services Vault), once the data is available on the storage-account

Will the agent automatically transfer data from Classic storage to ARM Backup vault blob storage?

After, the agent will start the first incremental online backup automatically?

Azure Backup Server: "An internal error prevented the modification of the backup policy."

Hi all,

I try to backup en DC\File server, but the online backup failed all the time.

The alert:

Online Recovery Point creation failed.

An internal error prevented the modification of the backup policy. (ID 100010)

So what can I do?

What solution do I need?

Hello All,

We currently have a number of VM's running in our Azure cloud. As tings stand none of them are getting backed up and no snapshots are being taken.

I need to find a solution which allows for the restoration of  single files from within a backup set. So, for example, if a member of staff corrupts a excel file or such like I can just restore that single file without having to spin up an entire copy of the VM holding that file.

Is there anything within Azure to do this or will I be looking at a third party solution?

Thanks,

Matt.

We currently use Unitrends for back up and are interested in migrating to Azure Backup.  Not really able to find any good information on what we would need to do to test and if agreed proceed to move to Azure backup.  We use Azure AD and Office 365 as well.

Anyone with some suggestions we be greatly appreciated.

We have been trying to use Azure Backup to backup a virtual server. The MARS Agent Installer extracts but then does not launch the installation wizard. After a few seconds, the extraction folder disappears.  Not sure what else to say as there's no log file, no error.

Had a sequence of Azure backups that have failed.

I raised a call and updated the MARS to the latest after which several backups worked OK. Now they are failing again.

Backup failed to copy data to vault.
Please retry backup after sometime. Please see https://azure.microsoft.com/en-us/status/ if there is an on-going issue with storage or network service and retry backup after issue is mitigated.

I checked Azure status - nothing reported at all. The customer actually has three servers and two of them backup reliably every day - it is only this one server that has repeated problems.

Time stamps on Quickbooks DB don't match the backup date

$

I asked this a while back but I think it's time to revisit it now that I've been running the paid version for a few months.  First, I'm running version 2.0.9040.0 of the client on the server (2012).  I just updated it this morning but have not rebooted as the install said I didn't have to.  Anyway, I went to do a test restore of our Quiickbooks Db and found the date on it to be 8/31.  Now in the past, as I said before, the date stamp has not matched the date of the backup exactly, but never a month off.  In fact once I found it to be about a week behind so I restored it then had our accountant open it and she said the data was valid as of the date it was backed up.  I have not tested this one yet in that matter.

But test aside it is very disconcerting.  How do I know with confidence that I am getting the latest versions of files?  This file is the most important, so it is the one I test with.  I can find no logs to review.  The portal appears to be useless other then to tell me the time of the last backup.

Has this been reported?  Is it a quirk of Quickbooks?  How can I triage what is going on?

What is my best option for a complete system backup/replacement

I am currently using Azure to back up the critical data on our Server 2012 file share and I'm quite happy with it.  Now I'm thinking I would like to explore using Azure as a DR solution.  Would there be a way to have a VM that is a sync'ed replica of our server off site so that if our server completely failed, or if the building burned down, users could then connect to it in the cloud until we were able to rebuild/recover our onsite server and then sync it back?

Who could I talk to about this scenario?  What the cost would be?  Difficulty of setting it up?  Limitations?

Windows Azure Backup Integration Service keeps crashing on Server 2012 Essentials

Hi All,

we're running into a problem with WABO on a Server 2012E for a customer. After the initial installation and configuration of WABO (which worked fine on an initial test run) at the moment the Windows Azure Backup Integration Service keeps crashing with a System.NullReferenceException and no backups are performed. We've re-installed & reconfigured the service and applied the available updates, but to no avail.

here's a small excerpt from the CBCcmdlet0Curr.errlog:

Recovery Services / Azure Backup DPM of On prem Vm's with CSV

$

Morning ,

I am trying to backup on premise virtual machines (running in hyper-v cluster), the Vm's are on a CSV .

Setup my recovery services and vault, downloaded the Azure backup server (which is basically a slim down version of DPM) to one

of the hyper-v hosts in the cluster,

Registered the Server to the Vault using the conditionals downloaded,

rebooted the machine

The first thing i notice is that my cluster is now in a warning state, with the below error

Cluster Shared Volume 'Volume1' ('CSV Volume name') has identified one or more active filter drivers on this device stack that could interfere with CSV operations. I/O access will be redirected to the storage device over the network through another Cluster node. This may result in degraded performance. Please contact the filter driver vendor to verify interoperability with Cluster Shared Volumes.
Active filter drivers found: SIS (HSM)

After hours of googling , the only way to fix this seems to be to run the command :-

Dism /online /Disable-Feature /FeatureName:SIS-Limited

Anyway , now the real issue,

When i Run DPM and go through the protection wizard, when i get the choose what i want to backup I click hyper-v and two things happens

1) No virtual machines show in local machine to backup

2) No virtual machines show in the cluster to backup

Any ideas anyone?
