Azure Backup Server (DPM) - Recreate Lost Server

$

Hello,

This is just a quick question.

If for some reason we lost an Azure Backup (DPM) Server we would create a new server with the same name, install the DPM software, register the new server to the original Azure Vault.

Once attached would the vault re-create the protection groups and restore point history onto the new server?

Thanks,
Alastair.

Azure fails 0x1FBD2

Hi

I have a Windows 2012 server that for some time was running MS Azure fine but for several weeks the program fails with

Internal service error 0x1FBD2

I have restarted the server, checked system time etc. checked free disk space etc. All seem OK but I still get the error

I have even tried to acquire a new vault key and create a new passphrase etc. successfully but when trying to then create a new

backup Azure failed again with the same error

Restarting the Azure services and clearing out the log files etc. have had no useful affect - The MSC snap-in fails within five seconds (probably significantly less) of starting.

DPM Data Recovery from Azure Cloud Backup - stuck at loading more items

Hi

When trying to recover data from Azure Cloud backup, DPM does not show the whole list of folders that have been backed up.  I have checked the network to see if there were an overload on the network, but this was not the cause of this issue.  It also has nothing to do with concurrent DPM sessions connecting to the Azure servers.

The folders shown in the list below is missing atleast half of all folders which are actually there.  The console remains on 'loading more items' and nothing changes.   This is consistent with other folders.  I have checked the contents of the folders and there is nothing in terms of size that would cause this to occur.

I can confirm that there are a lot more folders in that specific folder as it did show up previously randomly.

Azure backup not completing and giving no mesages

I have installed Azure Backup Client on a Windows 2008 R2 sp1 computer.

Originally, backups were set to run at 20:30 each evening.  However, when checking, I have found:

1) the backups have not run

2) There is no record in the azure MMC console of the job running or failing

3) under task scheduler, the task is still running

4) each hour a new instance of the "Microsoft-OnlineBackup-RetryFailedJobs" task starts but, again, no events to say its running or failing.

5) there are no entries in the event log for these backups.

I have manually run the backup a number of times (logged on as myself) and it works fine.    This morning at 10:14, I changed the job so it only backs up 1 folder and runs at 10:15 - that way I could monitor the job as it ran (or didn't!!!)

authentication error upon backup registration.

Not abe to figure out why we are getting error related to authentication upon backup registration.

Little bit of background…

We are small org using Azure backup solution/BACKUP AGENT , when registration it always fails saying cannot communicate to authentication service , we confirmed we are using right credential but not sure why this error is generated. Yes, am the administrator of the subscription and system.

REST API - backupJobs operation: Filtering on backup dates doesn’t seem to be working

$

Hello

I am trying to get a list of jobs using the REST API’s backupJobs operation. It seems that if no filter is given, only the last 24 hours worth of jobs is returned. I would like to get all the jobs that started after a certain date and for this, I am using a filter similar to:

$filter=startTime%20ge%20datetime'2016-12-15T22:30:04Z'

I say “similar” because I have tried all sorts of ways to encode this query (‘+’ instead of %20, %3A instead of ‘:’, various formats for the time stamp), to no avail. I always end up with the jobs for the past 24 hours.

What is strange is that if I try to filter on the operation type (i.e. “backup”), then I get all the backups there are in the system (I only have backups for the past 2 months).

Here is an example of the query I use:

https://management.azure.com/subscriptions/00000000-0000-0000-0000-000000000000/resourcegroups/LdrResourceGroup/providers/Microsoft.RecoveryServices/vaults/LdrVault/backupJobs?api-version=2016-08-10&$filter=startTime%20ge%20datetime'2016-12-15T22:30:04Z'

Does anyone have an example of a backupJobs query with a timestamp filter that works?

 Thanks in advance,

 Laurent.

Installing MABS on an Azure VM

If one was to install MABS on an Azure VM the instructions indicate using a VM using standard storage like A2 or A4. What are the downsides if one was to use premium storage (SSD) like an F4 or something similar?

I did plan to utilize storage spaces for about 8 disks as local storage.

required ports for azure backup

Hello,

what are the required ports to be able to run azure backup agent? is it only 443?

I plan to use azure backup to backup my servers to the cloud.

My company is connected though a VPN tunnel to the head office that is having a proxy server, but I am not sure if port 443 is open.

when I connected my servers directly to the internet, every thing worked seamlessly so I am sure there is something blocking traffic.

I need a list of the required ports so I can request them to open on the firewall.

thanks

Random VHD's appearing on VM

Hi there,

I have a strange incident this morning. Our backups have failed and upon checking the disks available on our server, I have two new strange VHD's attached starting with the letters CB and a random GUID.

Our file server is a VM with VHD's attached via Hyper-V. These disks are not present here, only on the server itself. Has anybody else came across these ?

Backup stalling at certain point. Having to manually cancel

Hi there,

We have a backup that has been running fine up until recently. For the last week or so, it has stalled at the same point overnight and I have had to manually cancel it. The error message "and error "WARNINGHr: = [0x1a5c2b30] Unable to CreateFile" is repeated over and over again in the logs but I can attach the full set if required.

The job backs up two volumes whihc are split over two VHD's attached to a VM via iSCSI. I have recently moved around 450GB worth of data from one volume to another so wondering if this maybe has had an effect on it ?

Can somebody help please ?

Azure Backup Jobs monitor not refreshing on portal.

$

Good day. I have an issue with the job status in the Azure Backup Portal. The portal thinks that a backup job has been running since 12/19/2016 and is still in progress. This is not correct. The job ended within the usual 40 minutes on 12/19/2016 and MARS Agent shows this and has gone on to perform the backup daily up to 12/28/2016.  I've even performed a few test recoveries on backups performed after 12/19/2016 but the portal is still stuck on 12/19/2016.

How can I get the portal to recognise that this job has finished and show the backup status for the more recent backup jobs? I like to monitor my backups from the portal from time to time so it being up to date would be helpful.

Many thanks

Need to re-install Azure Backup Add-In to Server Essentials R2 Dashboard

Hi, I'm currently trialing Azure Backup on my Server 2012 Essentials R2 server, and the add-in for it has disappeared from the Dashboard. Azure Backup is installed on the server and working correctly. I have downloaded the .wssx file from within the Home>Services section of the Dashboard, and have run it, but the installer says it is already installed. Dashboard shows Azure Backup as disabled, when it is actually working fine. Have just gone through the pain of uploading nearly 70 GB to Azure so don't want to break that!

Can I reassociate my computer to the same backup server after reformatting and upgrading to Windows 10?

$

Sorry if this has been asked before, but I tried a quick search and was unable to find anything.  My current environment is Windows 7 with my non-OS drive being backed up via Azure Backup (MARS Agent).  I'm thinking of reformatting the machine and upgrading to Windows 10.

When I do this, is it possible to have this back up to the same server as the Windows 7 machine was backing up to?  The files on the non-OS drive won't be changed at all, so I was hoping to avoid the network traffic of backing up the entire disk again... If this is possible, are there any special steps that I have to take to ensure that this happens?

Thanks in advance for the help!

When will MABS be updated based on DPM 2016 for WS 2016 support?

$

Right now, the Microsoft Azure Backup Server (MABS) being distributed via Azures Backup Vault is based on the DPM 2012 R2, which cannot be installed, nor can be used to back up WS 2016 machines.

When will a new MABS be released based on DPM 2016 so we can install and backup WS 2016?

If we want to use Azure for backup vaults, currently our only option is to purchase System Center 2016. Seems pretty expensive just to be able to use Azure Backup Vaults.

Thanks.

Backups Failing

I configured a daily backup for an app, it backed up 3 times and never attempted another backup.  I'm concerned because the backup functionality doesn't seem to be working and you can't setup alerts on failure.  Can someone take a look?

DPM Azure Recovery Fails Error 3111

$

Hi,

I'm trying to recover a folder from our Azure Cloud Storage using our Azure Recovery Server (DPM). Event Viewer shows:

The recovery jobs for D:\ that started at 05 January 2017 11:06:09, with the destination of ######, have completed. Most or all jobs failed to recover the requested data. (ID: 3111)
An unexpected error occurred while the job was running. (ID: 104)

DPM gives an error about conflicting jobs running but there are none.

Recovery from local storage appears to be running fine, this is only from the cloud storage. I've tried different folders and recovery points but I get the same error.

Any help greatly received.

Thank You, Rob

EDIT: Also to add I've tried to restore to another server and the local server, same error

Error 186fb

Hello

I have created a new backup and it has reported the error

"C:\ Unsuccessful. An unknown error occurred. To troubleshoot the issue, view the event log for additional details, and then see Trouble shoot Microsoft Azure <http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?Linkid=309018>. Error code:186FB."

However when I go to that web page I cannot find any information on that error code. Nor can I find the error code on the web.

Any tips on how to to troubleshoot this please?

Thanks

Paddy
