Backup Method and possibilities

Hello and Thanks for viewing,

We have few Virtual Machines running and have currently opted for Azure Backup but things going tricky for us to configure the backup Schedules and the method of Backups we are looking for.

First we have installed agents on each server and are now trying to configure the schedules and not sure how to do this, following are few points seeking some assistance.

1 - We are trying to Backup the Virtual machines (System/C Drive) for an Image backup, thus we can restore the whole Server (thus no need to reconfigure the Server again) if any time its crashed, schedule to be done for Monthly Backup with 6 retention's.

2- Also there are Data on different Drives (E, F Disks/Drives), which we need to schedule Daily over night Backup and should able to recover (file level recovery) the data if any time needed, schedule to be done for Daily Backup with 30 Days of retention.

I wish to here on the above which will help us to achieve the backup schedules we have in our plan, looking forward to hear back.

Thanking in advance,

Priyabrata Maharana

In case this helps anyone...

I had this error on a Windows Server 2012 VM and was able to get past it by creating the Scratch folder on a non-dedup volume.

Do not see cloud services and virtual network created before the backp vault

Hi,

I recently tested Azure IaaS VM backup, I was able to successfully do everything in a lab

Creation of backup vault, discovery, register ,backup and restore

I created VM, virtual network (site2 site vpn) and virtual machine later than the backup vault and worked fine.

I then tried to configure to an existing Subscription which already has multiple cloud services and virtual network, I was able to discover VM, Register and backup Vms however when I try to restore no cloud service or virtual network are displayed.

Creating new virtual network and new cloud services drop downs are populated, but only with the new items...

Any clue ?

Thanks

Azure backup Windows 8.1 error

Since I learned that Azure Backup turned available for Windows 8.1 I have tried to get it to work but I have not succeeded yet. I have followed the instructions but when i try to make a backup I get the 0x1D4C2 error. When looking in the logs I don't see any clear indications of what went wrong. There are a lot of warnings in the log though, so I have broken out some of them below. Note that there are more stuff happening in between the lines. If it's needed I can publish the whole log.

In AWS you can create an AMI from any VM which is a very simple way to deploy multiple instance of the same VM image.

How do I do that in Azure?

We are using Azure Online Backup for our servers and one of the servers is failing the backup with the following message:

Could not communicate with the VM agent for snapshot status. Snapshot VM sub task timed out.

Please see the troubleshooting guide on how to resolve this.

Azure Backup agent crashing server

Every time I try to install the agent on a 2012 R2 server it crashes the server. It only get a few seconds into the install when it completely shut the server down and I have to repair it. This has happened on 4 different servers that were all up to date. I was hoping to become more involved with the Azure platform but this isn't helping. What makes it worse than when I ask for help they say they can't as I dont pat enough.

NAS Backup failures and slow backup performance

Hello all,I've subscribed to a free trail account in order to evaluate Azure against my existing AWS S3 backup service.I've configured my backup-task on my NAS and successfully connected to Azure. Here's what happened:

InformationBackup19/05/2015 18:46SYSTEM[Azure Blob][Microsoft Azure Backup Set 1]   Backup task started.
ErrorBackup21/05/2015 10:11SYSTEM[Azure Blob][Microsoft Azure Backup Set 1] Exception occured while backing up data.
InformationBackup21/05/2015 10:17SYSTEM[Azure Blob][Microsoft Azure Backup Set 1]   Backup task started.
ErrorBackup21/05/2015 11:01SYSTEM[Azure Blob][Microsoft Azure Backup Set 1] Exception occured while backing up data.
InformationBackup21/05/2015 11:13SYSTEM[Azure Blob][Microsoft Azure Backup Set 1]   Backup task started.
ErrorBackup22/05/2015 07:58SYSTEM[Azure Blob][Microsoft Azure Backup Set 1] Exception occured while backing up data.
InformationBackup22/05/2015 09:39SYSTEM[Azure Blob][Microsoft Azure Backup Set 1]   Backup task started.

We're now May 29th and thank god this time the backup task from May 22nd is still alive. However, my NAS has only managed to backup about 9%, a total of 24.6GB in over 7 days.

Did I make an error configuring my account, are these transfer speeds representative of Azure performance? I don't honestly know and I'm not allowed to log a technical question to support using a free 30-days trial account. The purpose of the trial account being to validate the solution :)
Can anybody help?

Thanks in advance,

Kind regards,
Marc

Can't Install Azure Backup Agent

We recently subscribed to Azure Backup. On our SBS 2011 standard server, I'm unable to get the agent installed. I get a 1603 error in the install window (fatal error) and error 1723 in the event log:

Product: Microsoft Azure Recovery Services Agent -- Error 1723. There is a problem with this Windows Installer package. A DLL required for this install to complete could not be run. Contact your support personnel or package vendor. Action _SetGroupNameProperties, entry: SetGroupNameProperties, library: C:\Windows\Installer\MSI5ED6.tmp

I'm not sure what DLL file this would be referencing or why I'm getting this error. Our server running 2012r2 had no problem installing the agent.

Hi, is there any possibility to have initial sync of data for the VM replication done using any hard drive or manual transfer of VMDK file?

Registration server and proxy fail

Hi - thought id trial this Azure software with a view to roll out across our site - however ....I cannot get the application to use the proxy - no matter how I go about it - it point blank refuses to use it - I looked in the forums and found others with the same problem and they were advised to go to the support and raise a ticket...well the trial edition doesn't offer tech support and im not prepared to invest money in a broken application with a view that I might get it working later....

Can someone offer some advice ? im not putting my server on an open connection, it must be behind a proxy.

thanks

Job Failed on one drive: irrecoverable error 0x086C8

Hi,

I am using Azure Backup on Windows Server 2012 R2, as Hyper-V host. Azure backup is failing on one drive with the following error:  Backup has encountered an irrecoverable error. Contact Microsoft Support for further assistance. (0x086C8)

There are no events in the event log.

The drive it is failing on is the D:\ drive, not the system drive, and contains a couple of the .vhdx drives for the virtual machines.

Any ideas?

Thanks,

Mark

When performing the initial backup through the network of an on-premises Windows 2012 R2 Server, I get the message "Job Failed" and "Microsoft Azure Backup encountered an unexpected error. Wait for a few minutes and try the operation again. If the issue persists, contact Microsoft Support. (0x27100)"

I've tried uninstalling / re-installing the Azure Backup agent from the Server along with deleting / re-creating the backup Vault in Azure.

Any ideas?

What are the ways to back up my Azure virtual machine?

Hi,

Good day to you.

I would like to back up my Azure Virtual Machine.

This is because It takes me some time to set up the virtual machine with those applications I need.

May I know what kind of Back Up should I use, just in case something goes wrong then I can have the machine back as I have installed at the beginning.

Is creating an image of my Azure Virtual Machine with OS Windows Server 2008 R2 with applications installed, a solution?

Please help.

Thanks for your kind attention.
