Connecting DPM server to the Internet

We are running DPM 2012 R2 update rollup 8 and I am working on getting it setup to use Azure for some long term backups.  Our DPM server is not connected to the Internet and I do not have a proxy to use for connecting but I can open up a port or two as needed in our firewall to Azure and I should be set. What port and IP(s) do I need to open up to make it work?  Thanks.

Restoring from cloud system state backup

$

Hi all.

We are in the process of setting up Azure backup using the DPM component for onsite backups and offsite with Azure.

We would like to prove the concept that the offsite backup is restorable in the event that the original server along with the DPM server is destroyed.

How would we best go about testing this? Is there a user guide?

Please bear in mind we are talking about physical servers and not virtual machines and we have used system state backup as well as file level.

Can a VM be replicated from a local site to Azure without the Azure VM needing to be switched on

I have a number of local virtual machines, and i would like to replicate these to Azure.

Does anyone know whether the replicated virtual machines in Azure need to remain online for the replication to work? I am keen to find out as it is expensive to leave virtual machines running in the cloud if these are not being used.

Ideally I would like for the local virtual machines to replicate to Azure and to have the option to switch the vms on should a disaster occur.

Any thoughts?

Thanks,

BenG

What version of DPM 2012 SP1 (not R2) is req'd for the latest version of the DPM Azure Backup agent? Does 4.1.3465 need patch? More specifically, will a DPM 4.1.3465 server with v2.0.8715.0 of Azure agent stop backing up after this Wed? Patches needed?

Backup Discovery of VM created with RM deploy in New Portal

From Tim Wendland @timwendland via Twitter

Hi All.  Where do I find info on how to backup my VMs that are not of the (classic) variety?  I created a backup vault using the old portal, but can only discover (classic) VMs.

I've already been working through this post:aka.ms/809729. Backup vault creation and VM discovery doesn't seem to be working in the new portal.  I had to go back to the old portal to create a backup vault and it appears to only allow VM discovery of VMs that were created with the (classic) deploy model.  Any suggestions on how to backup VMs that were created with the Resource Manager deploy model?

Azure Recovery Service Backup Vault - Can Not register my VM

Hello.  I created a new Backup Vault in the East US region.  When I click Discover, it detects my VM from the East US region, but does not allow me to register it.  Here's the error message:
"Successfully discovered virtual machines in the region East US. Please register the virtual machines to a vault of same region."

I've double checked & verify that both the vault and VM are both in the East US region.  I've included a screenshot below to show this.  Please let me know what I am missing.  Thanks for reading.

Hello,

How can I set retention policy of my folder backup to always keep ONLY last backup, I do not need any previous backups to be kept. I want to retain only the last backup I made regardless the time of backup, even if next backup is months later.

Can someone help with setting retention policy of Azure Backup Agent ?

Recovery Services

Hi,

I am running a trial of azure to look into using recovery services for our BCP, the idea looks great replicating our onsite VMware server to Azure.  However when trying to setup the recovery services, I run through the quick start wizard and fall at the first hurdle, when creating a Configuration Server the dropdown for Azure network isn't populated and yet I have a network up and running and connected to my LAN via VPN.

Any ideas? I've tried it from a couple of machines to rule out a local problem, but no joy.

THanks,

Mike

Scratch Folder Location

Everyone

I’m pushing to get Azure rolled out in our network globally to 18 sites but need help/support with an issue

Due to low disk space on some servers I need to change the scratch folder location, I followed the guide below which I’m being told the Azure team recommend.

http://www.techkb.onl/azure-backup-changing-the-scratch-location/

When I change the scratch location the Azure agent throws this error  “Error The encryption passphrase stored for this computer is not correctly configured. Ensure that the encryption passphrase is configured properly”

When I change the location in the registry back to the original location “C:\Program Files\Microsoft Azure Recovery Services Agent\Scratch\” the backup runs fine

Any help welcome - Jeff

Backup always fails when trying to backup through the agent.

Hi, I'm suffering from failure of backup when i use backup agent.
(But VM backup action is always successes.)

At first, I registered VM successfully by under steps.
azure.microsoft.com/en-us/documentation/articles/backup-configure-vault

When I trying to follow next steps, I always failed at STEP no 6, "Back Up Now".
azure.microsoft.com/en-us/documentation/articles/backup-azure-backup-windows-server/

The error code is always 0x1D4C2(120002) and i found wiki article that resolution is
"TRY NEXT TIME".
But i tried, and tried, and tried, but the first backup was always failed.
What can i do next time?

First time, i doubt that this VM has an NSG rule but the registeration was successful.
If the backup operation port is different from registeration port, what port that i have to add to rules?

Azure Backup is not backing up changed files

I have Microsoft Azure Backup running on Windows 10.  I am backing up a single folder (for testing) and all new files in the folder are backed up correctly.  However,  any changed files are not being backed up.  For example,  I created a document on Tuesday which is backed up to Azure on Tuesday afternoon's backup.  I changed the document on Wednesday morning but the new document was not backed up on Wednesday afternoon's backup.   To verify it was still backing something up I create a new document on Thursday morning and the new document was backed up Thursday but my changed document still was not backed up.

To verify it was not backed up I restored the document from the newest available backup and the file size, date modified, and content were all from the original document.

Does Azure Backup only backup new files, is this a setting, or is something wrong?  Thank you for any help you can provide.

How to use Network Drive with Azure Backup or Recovery Services

Dear Azure Forum,

I have successfully created the Azure Recovery Service or Backup Vault under Azure. Under Dashboard I downloaded the Agent for Client and can successfully schedule jobs for backup for on premise servers.

However, my objective is to have a network drive where I can schedule the jobs based on the network drive where I can Map it and very easy for me to see the files as well.

Please let me know how it can be achieved without using a VM.

Thank you,

Recovery Services Agent detected file corruption, 0x086C7

Hello,

I've been receiving this error for the past while whenever one of our servers tries to backup to Azure:

Microsoft Azure Recovery Services Agent has detected file corruption when verifying the latest backup. A new recovery point could not be created. The next backup will attempt to transfer the data again. If the issue persists, contact Microsoft support (0x086C7)

I'm rather concerned about this, it has been several months since this server has been able to backup properly, and I've been working myself to no end on this among other things and fixing this will help my stress levels. If there is anything I need to provide to fix this, I will gladly do so. I'd appreciate a quick response what with winter coming, thank you.

Azure Online backup on DPM failing for past two weekends - Home drives on File Server

$

Hello,

Using DPM 2012R2 ver 4.2.1373.0 with Azure Online ver 2.0.8724.0

For the past two weekends getting error:

Type:    Online recovery point
Status:    Failed
Description:    Windows Azure Backup Agent has detected file corruption when verifying the latest backup. A new recovery point could not be created. (ID 34503)

This is for Home drives on a File server. The other volumes on the File server are successfully backing up to Azure.

Ran a consistency check on the volume. Confirmed the data backups complete fine on DPM. Its just to Azure that it fails.

I'm not sure how to read the logs in E:\Microsoft Azure Recovery Services Agent\Temp\cbenginecurr.errlog.

Also, the scratch drive is filling up every time it fails. So I need to know how to clean that up before I run out of disk space.

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks, Denise

Azure Backup Server - System State backup not working

$

Hi GUys,

I configured Azure Backup server, connected Sharepoint server to it and testing few things:

1. File level backup

2. Sharepoint protection

3. System State

First 2 works fine, but have an issue with SystemState.

Backup starts OK, and on Source system its done, and first few times DPM says that everything is ok, but

1) it did not shows this System with SystemState in Recovery menu

2) Replica becomes inconsistent

So i still probably able to run restore from Source system WB menu, but there is no such option in AzureBackupServer.

Thanks,

Oleksiy
