Job fails 0x1D4C2

$

After several months of successful backups my Azure backup started failing with "Operation failed. (0x1D4C2)".   I backup files and folders on two drives and only one is giving me the error.  I've search through the logs and searched the web for about an hour with no answer.  Any direction would be helpful.

The failure appears to happen after the "preparing storage" stage.

scheduled job does not run

we have configured an Azure backup schedule to run daily at 7pm.  When we check the application it shows no backup job and no errors, but shows the next job as due later that day. If I tell it to backup now, it runs perfectly.  Event viewer show no activity at the scheduled time either.

I have removed the backup job, and created a new one but the same result. Installed the latest app too with no difference.

how do we find out why it is not running on schedule?

Azure Backup Service and Key Vault Permissions

$

Simple question really.  We have a number of Azure VMs that utilise key vault to encrypt the OS disk (bitlocker) and in order to backup the server, I need to give Azure Backup Service access to Key Vault.  That would be simple but what is the service principal name for Azure Backup Service?

Azure Virtual Machines not showing up after discovery

I'm trying to setup Azure backups for a couple of Azure VMs and after running discovery I get this message "Successfully discovered new items. Register them to the vault 'AzureBackup' using Register action" but when I go to register the VM there are no items to display.

Any ideas?

Azure Backup Scheduling

We have created an Azure Backup account. I would like to run different backup schedules (file and folder) from a local machine (W2012 Server) to one vault; 1 ea daily, 1 ea weekly, 1 monthly different folders/partitions. All from the one system. There has to be something I am missing. How does one create multiple scheduled jobs from one system to the same vault? It keeps bringing up the same schedule thinking I want to modify it.

The only way I can figure to do this is to use 3 vaults, one for each schedule. So, I register one vault, and create the schedule for job 1. Then register the other vault and create a schedule for job 2, same for job 3. This would be required for each system I want to back up. Recovery would require downloading the vault credentials and going through the register process again and require keeping track of the location of backups.
Thanks for any help for a new Azure Backup user.

recover data issue

Hi,

I am receiving this error when searching for files to recover data. I have 10/15 different azure backup jobs, all working well , backing up well but the issue is when  it comes to recover the data.

Backup service is under maintenance, the operation will not complete now.

Retry the operation after some time. If the problem persists, please contact Microsoft Support for assistance.

Can't find any reference to this on the web. reinstalled agent but as I said its on several different azure backup sites so its not an agent issue

thanks

Network Throttling for Server 2008 - Adjust Bandwidth -

"Q12. Is there a way to adjust the amount of bandwidth used by the Backup service?
A12. Yes, use the Change Properties option in the Backup Agent to adjust bandwidth. Adjust the amount of bandwidth and the times when you use that bandwidth."

Thare no notes in this section !!!

As Azure Backup supports the following list of operating systems: Windows Server 2008 R2 SP1 and Windows Server 2008 SP2 the question is: why is not available on that servers the "throttling" feature ?

It is in grey and there is a message that is not available for this OS.

Now I found just a note that said: "Network throttling is not available on Windows Server 2008 R2 SP1, Windows Server 2008 SP2, or Windows 7 (with service packs). The Azure Backup network throttling feature engages Quality of Service (QoS) on the local operating system. Though Azure Backup can protect these operating systems, the version of QoS available on these platforms doesn't work with Azure Backup network throttling. Network throttling can be used on all othersupported operating systems." :(

You need to put evidence about this note on the principal section of OS

I need urgently a workaround to adjust the amount of bandwidth and to set the working hour and save the band available that is very low (DSL 7MB/512 KB).

Is there some workaround through PowerShell, Script or somethingelse ?

OBEngine Service missing from a fresh install of Azure Backup

I downloaded the MS Azure Recovery Agent from the portal and registered and set up the server fine

I set up a quick backup job to test and when I came to run it I get the following error:

I have rebooted the server and still the same error

The service is missing so i guess that's why it won't run but I cant see or find how to get that service installed.

I would not have expected this issue from a clean install?

Anyone help please?

Azure Backup fails with error 0x1D4C2

Hi there,

I have searched other threads for this error but all seem to point to an extra \ in a couple of registry keys but this is not my problem.

Running Server 2012 and azure backup. I am backing up two volumes each night. One looks to succeed with no problems but the other fails with the above error code. No other indication as to what it may be. Has anybody got any ideas as to what it could be ?

Azure Backup of VMs

I created a new Backup Vault and did the discovery to locate my Azure VM's. The message says that it found some and to register them. When I go to register nothing is there it says to Discover them. After a few times of that nonsense still nothing. So now how do I get these VM's backed up? Will I have to download the Azure Backup software into each one etc?

Azure Recovery Agent Does not Run as Scheduled

$

Hello All,

I have an instance of Azure Recovery Agent installed on an on-premise server running Server 2008 SP1.  The agent installs, registers the server in my portal, then allows me to schedule a backup; however, the backups never run as scheduled.  No alerts are generated, no backups generated.

Running the backups manually works as expected.

Any advice?

I did notice this in Event Viewer under Application Logs, but it does not appear consistently; so, perhaps it is a red herring.

Azure Backup of VMs

I created a "Recevery Services" vault in my region to backup my Azure VM's. My VM's are encrypted and trying to include them in the recovery plan causes an error (see below) how do I grant the appropriate permissions so that the backup service has permissions to the key vault?

{ "status": "Failed", "error": { "code": "ResourceDeploymentFailure", "message": "The resource operation completed with terminal provisioning state 'Failed'.", "details": [ { "code":"BCMUserErrorKeyVaultPermissionsNotConfigured", "message": "Azure Backup Service does not have sufficient permissions to Key Vault for Backup of Encrypted Virtual Machines." } ] } }

Azure Backup Failing on Windows Server 2008 (SP2)

Every time the backup runs (scheduled or manual trigger) it fails with the following message: "An unexpected error occured during the operation. Retry the operation. (0x07ef9)". There's no antivirus running on the machine currently, the agent and OS are  up to date and I have tried deleting some cache files as suggested in a similar thread to no avail. Any suggestions appreciated.

Azure backup schedule - Use different backup during the week.

We have several different servers sending backup to an offsite Machine storage.

We are looking at azure for increased greater capacity and redundancy.

On Monday we want to send Monday folder of backups to azure
On Tuesday, Tuesdays folder, etc.

The current  process in azure would require use to manually change the source everyday.

Is this possible

Several physical servers.
We wish to store database backups to Azure.
Installed Azure on one of the servers.
Azure is not recognizing mapped drives to allow us to backup from other servers.

Can this be installed on all the servers and still use a single azure account?.

Is there a way to map drives using the azure on premises option using the backup inferface?

How Authentication is happening between Azure Backup server (in Azure) with On-Premises Servers

$

Hi,

I am building a VM server in Azure and registering it in recovery service vault to use as Azure Backup Server (in azure) and building the infrastructure by installing Azure backup software. And want to take backup from On-premises servers to azure via azure backup server.

Here, On-premises servers are in a domain. ex: servername.xxx.com (domain name is xxx). How I can connect the on-premises servers to Azure backup server for taking the backup? Whether I need to bring the Azure backup server (in azure) to join the on-premises domain (i.e, xxx.com) in azure?... How the authentication is happening between Azure Backup server (in azure) and On-Premises Servers (xxx.com domain) to take backup of on-premises server to azure... Any idea  please.

Azure Recovery Service Agent

Hello,

We have configured Azure backup to backup file and folders of on-premise virtual machines and deployed Azure Recovery Service Agent on each and every virtual machine from where we are taking backup.

MS released an update of Azure Recovery Service Agent, previous version was 2.0.9037.0 and new version is 2.0.9040.0,I was looking for the release document which can give us something like whats new, what has been fixed, impact or prerequisites so i can review prior to deploying to the On-premise virtual machine. I googled but didn't find anything.

Please assist.

Microsoft Azure Backup fails after Windows 7 to 10 update

$

I've been using Azure Backup for more than a year to backup my home Computers including Windows 7, 8.1 and 10. Everything has been just fine until the last Windows 7 Computer was updated to Windows 10.

The Computer already had Azure Backup installed and scheduled for daily execution when I started Windows 10 update. After update changes can't be done through "Schedule Backup" and manual backups started from "Back Up Now" fail also. On both cases I get error "An internal error prevented the modification of the backup policy". Restore still works.

If I try to use "Schedule Backup" and select "Stop this backup schedule..." it goes through without errors and backup client no longer shows the schedule info on Microsoft Azure Backup main screen. If I then go back to "Schedule Backup" and try to Re-enable backup schedule with same or modified settings, I get the error below.

"The backup policy could not be modified.
Error: An internal error prevented the modification of the backup policy.  An internal error prevented the modification of the backup policy."

If I close backup client after the error and then restart it, I can see the schedule information on main screen as if schedule is really enabled, but when I look at Task Scheduler -> Task Scheduler Library -> Microsoft -> OnlineBackup, there are no jobs on that folder. On my other Computers I can see the scheduled backups in this folder.

I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling Microsoft Azure Backup, but that didn't change anything. Any help to resolve this is much appreciated.
