A Fatal Error Occurred During Snapin Operation
I use Azure Backup to back up my wife's Windows 10 laptop to a recovery services vault in Azure (classic, because ARM wasn't available when this was set up). If I look in Azure, I can see the protected instance but if I fire up Microsoft Azure Backup on the PC, it fails to load and the error message says:
A fatal error occurred during Microsoft Azure Backup Snapin operation.
Error details: System.ServiceProcess.TimeoutException: Timeout has expired and the operation has not been completed
[...]
Please close the Microsoft Azure Backup Snapin and restart it.
I've restarted the machine but the same error occurs?
This was working last time I checked but the C:\Program Files\Microsoft Azure Recovery Services Agent\Temp folder has a load of .crash files...
Please can someone help? Thanks, Mark

Azure Backup Unable to to Create Snapshot 0X186C2
We are trying to backup a Physical Server using Azure Backup, We keep getting an error 0x186C2 unable to create snapshots.
The Initial setup was clean no issues. We are able to to Normal Snapshots of the data using VSS so that is not the issue.
We already set all the Snapshots to Unlimited.
Any thoughts on what we can try to resolve this issue.
Azure IAAS VM Backup Hanging in Transfer Data to Vault Step
Hi,
I've had backups running for now for over 8 hours for 2 VM's. Snapshot occurred in just a few mins, however, Transfer Step has been running much longer than expected. This happened a few days ago and we just canceled the backup. The last successful backup for both VM's took less then 2 hours to complete.
These are VM's that were migrated to Azure from on-prem Hyper-V infrastructure.
I'm worried that the Transfer Data to Vault step will still be running when the backup scheduler tries to start daily backups and hence, these will fail as a result.
What could be causing this? Is this normal behavior? What can we do to fix this so that backups complete in a reasonable timeframe?
How to best calculate and predict data consumption for incremental backups (delta).
We currently are studying Azure backup for some of our DEV servers, however some questions have remained.
Currently our daily backups are set to a 7 days retention policy. Weekly backups, however, only happen twice a month. And the monthly backup pulls data only from the last weekly backup.
However, i need to know if i increase retention for my daily backups if my weekly backups will use data from those daily backups, or if i will be billed separately for those weekly backups.
W2012R2 - Azure Backup - Its own Snapshot = high disk usage
Hi,
we installed the Agent and then start the first Backup after schedule it, users complain slow network performance, looking from Resources Monitor we found 'system' process doing snapshot for '\Device\HardDisk14\{Folders}'. As we understand it is creating it's own snapshot and creating cache files (.vhd).
There is a way to interrupt it??
backup finished with errors
Hello Azure Experts
Running Azure BAckup on a 2012 server. It was working fine until I installed a required patch/update. Now I'm getting the following message in Azure Backup:"Job completed with warnings"
When I look at the Failed File List, I see the following:

These are files that are stored on the server. This has happened two days in a row, but with different files listed in the Failed File List.
I can recover the files in the list. Any idea why this is happening and how to fix it? Any help is appreciated.

WAImportExport - Close files prior to initial backup
I wish to use the import/export tool to create an initial backup of our server for physical transport and upload to the Azure servers.
The application reports that it cannot backup some files (client computer backups) because the files are open in another process. I had terminated all backups for the client computers before starting the WAImportExport tool.
Any suggestions on how to overcome this error?
Thanks,
Andrew
Change simultaneous Online Recovery Point jobs ?
Within MABS, is it possible to change the # of simultaneous Online Recovery Point jobs? Right now it appears to be set at 8, which mirrors HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Microsoft Data Protection Manager\Configuration\PaxParallelIncrementalJobs\SQL (REG_DWORD)
Does that key control max parallel online recovery points as well, or is it just a coincidence ? Most of our sites are <50Mb, with significant throttling during business hours - as such I'd prefer to upload only 1-2 streams at a time.
Help Please !!! - Hit by DMA Locker before uploading Blobs to Azure Console
I have a client who has been hit by !DMA Locker 3.0 , all the data has been locked.
I was in the process of getting his data to Azure Cloud Backup when he got hit.
I was mid process , as in I had an external USB Drive on the server and the azure agent installed , we had run the initial backup to the external of two files 1 x Aibblob and 1 x baseblob ( total 188Gb ).
We uploaded those two files to the Azure console over the last 24 hrs and cannot see how to access the data within them.
My URGENT question is; Is the Data in the two files I have viable? As in can it be opened and recovered or is it lost because we had not got to the process of encrypting them and sending off the encrypted files to Microsoft Australia for upload into our console?
I would encypt the blobs and send the drive off to Microsoft but the server they need to be encrypted on does not run the Microsoft tool anymore.
Azure Backup Error -2145124329 Upon Installing Azure Backup Agent
Hi,
We were hoping to get some clarity as to whether or not SBS 2011 server standard will be support with Azure Backup.
Currently we are unable to install the Azure Backup Agent on said server, with the following error message received;
The Microsoft Azure Recovery Services Agent installation has failed.
Error: -2145124329
In thread post (link), there is no confirmation whether Microsoft do/don't support Azure Backup on SBS 2011 standard servers.
Any clarity would be much appreciated.
Thank you.
How to integrate Symantec Netbackup (On-premises) backup to Microsoft Azure backup (Cloud) via ARM Deployment Model
Hi,
I am using Netbackup solution in On-Premises. Is there a way to integrate with Azure Backup Service to Netbackup. I know that only SCDPM supports Azure
Backup. Whether we have any integration tools to link with Netbackup solution

Backup with Uranium Backup
I'm trying Uranium Backup to make a cloud backup in Azure.
In Azure I created a storage account LRS BLOB and the backup works properly.
My question is: at each backup the old files are replaced, can I go back to previous versions?
Perhaps by setting a second backup on Azure?
thank you
Error 812 when installing Azure Backup Server
I can’t install Azure Backup server. After install the SQL and the Azure agent the installation failed with this error:
Report configuration failed. Verify that SQL Server Reporting Services is installed properly and that it is running. ID: 812
I found tons of topics about this error. But none of them works…
This is what I have done already:
- Checked SQL Server Reporting Services running under Network Service account
- Create a new report server database
- I can reach the Reporting Service webpage
- Removed SQL from the server and let them reinstall
The server has also and third-party application installed who is using port 443, is this a problem?
Error:
The webpage of the Reporting Server:

Backup Fails : 0x08174
We are trying to backup a volume but the job fails. Volume is 10TB, used 7TB.
Error: Microsoft Azure Backup failed to access the shadow copy because of inadequate disk space on the volume. Retry the operation after increasing the free space available in the volume (0x08174)

Azure Recovery Services Agent won't start
After completing several successful backups over a couple of weeks, two servers stopped backing up a day apart from each other. When trying to startup the Azure Recovery application on each server to view job status and any errors, the application fails to initialize and times out during step 1. If I try to restart the service, it hangs on the startup and times out, never fully starting. I even tried to re-register one of the servers, but it fails by not saying the vault credentials file isn't valid, even though it had just been downloaded and I had allowed re-registration for that server in Azure. I rebooted both servers as well, no change.
One server is running 2012R2 and the other is 2008R2 sp2, and as I mentioned having been completing successfully daily backups for weeks then just stopped. Other servers on this same subnet have still been completing their backups successfully, and there has been no firewall changes or anything else changed in the environment. The servers still have internet access.
On the 2008R2 server I even installed an upgrade of the agent since the running version was a few weeks older than the currently available one, the upgrade was successful, but the app itself still won't initialize and the service can't be started still, so nothing was helped.
I feel like I may need to completely uninstall the app and reinstall , but I'd prefer to not lose my existing recovery points. Also, we're trying to make Azure Backup our main backup utility but it's hard to trust if it just stops working randomly and can't be restarted even though nothing has changed on a server.
Any ideas of what else I can check or try?
Backup on premise running VM
Azure backup service provides two agents: VM agent and backup agent.
Backup agent is used to backup "files and folders" and not really a running VM.
VM agent can backup a running VM too BUT it can be done only if the VM is running on Azure. (Am I correct in this assumption?)
Is there a way we could possibly backup an "on premise" running VM volume (not files and folders) to Azure?

On Premise Virtual Machine backup to Azure
We have a 2012 R2 Hyper-V Cluster and we use System Center Data Protection Manager 2012 R2 update rollup 10 for backups. I would like to backup some on premise virtual machines to our Azure backup vault in addition to our disk backups. I have been looking for information that talks specifically about backing up on premise virtual machines but I haven't found anything about it yet. Is this supported? If so, can you point me to the documentation about it?
Also, provided it is supported, can you also point me to the documentation about restoring those on premise VMs in Azure?
Thanks!
