Microsoft Azure Backup fails after Windows 7 to 10 update

I've been using Azure Backup for more than a year to backup my home Computers including Windows 7, 8.1 and 10. Everything has been just fine until the last Windows 7 Computer was updated to Windows 10.

The Computer already had Azure Backup installed and scheduled for daily execution when I started Windows 10 update. After update changes can't be done through "Schedule Backup" and manual backups started from "Back Up Now" fail also. On both cases I get error "An internal error prevented the modification of the backup policy". Restore still works.

If I try to use "Schedule Backup" and select "Stop this backup schedule..." it goes through without errors and backup client no longer shows the schedule info on Microsoft Azure Backup main screen. If I then go back to "Schedule Backup" and try to Re-enable backup schedule with same or modified settings, I get the error below.

"The backup policy could not be modified.
Error: An internal error prevented the modification of the backup policy.  An internal error prevented the modification of the backup policy."

If I close backup client after the error and then restart it, I can see the schedule information on main screen as if schedule is really enabled, but when I look at Task Scheduler -> Task Scheduler Library -> Microsoft -> OnlineBackup, there are no jobs on that folder. On my other Computers I can see the scheduled backups in this folder.

I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling Microsoft Azure Backup, but that didn't change anything. Any help to resolve this is much appreciated.

Can we restore Windows Hyper VM’s to Azure?

Can we restore Windows Hyper VM’s to Azure?  We have a few VM’s in our lab environment that we need to recreate in Azure and rather than starting from scratch, we would like to take a snapshot of the VM and restore it to Azure. Is it possible?

Many Thanks Deepak

Azure Backup Server for Remote Site

Hi,

We currently use Azure Backup Agent for one of our remote site. We would like to roll this out to other sites but the management and logging is a concern.

I came across Azure Backup Server which would allow us to centrallise everything into one place for all sites. However my question is can you use it to backup just to Azure and not to local storage at all and if this is possible does the backup traffic run through the backup server or from the agent to azure.

Thanks for any assistance,

Regards,

Hi there

Got Azure backup running from Server 2012 r2 to Azure cloud.  What is happening is that every second day I get a call from the customer stating they are not able to access database on server.  When investigate it was found that the cbengine.exe process memory usage has grown to the point that the server databases become unresponsive.

I have upgraded to the latest Azure backup agent and still this problem.

Any ideas welcome

If I use the Azure Backup client on a Windows 10 device, does it enable the Previous Versions feature or would I still need to configure File History in addition to Backup?

Recovery Code - Have it but not working

During installation you have to generate a passcode, and then it creates a file with said passcode.

For whatever reason that password from the file isn't working.

We had issues where we were trying to upgrade and received a configuration xml issue.  The suggestion was to uninstall, reinstall without removing the SQL, or any of the files.  We did that.  Then we allowed the device to reassociate in the Azure control panel.

We reinstalled, added the downloaded certificate, and it asked for the recovery code which we pulled from that file, and it says it's incorrect.

At this juncture we have in a pinch saved a copy of all the data, the database, and what not and installed using a new Backup Services site so that we could have backups run over the weekend.  However we don't want to loose the months worth of data that's in the prior one.

Is there a way from the DB or anything else to recover whatever that code is, or be able to get to that data?

Azure Backup Agent Error on Launch

Hello,

I was able to successfully install and configure the Windows Azure Backup Agent, and perform an initial backup of my server without any errors. The Azure Portal shows that a recovery point was made.

However, after that, I have not been able to launch the backup agent, and it has not made any of the daily backups that I scheduled. Whenever I try to launch the program, it gives me this error:

Following error occurred during Windows Azure Backup SnapIn operation.

Error details: The current operation failed due to an internal service error [0x1FBE2]. Please retry the operation after sometime. If the issue persists, contact Microsoft Support..

Please close the Windows Azure Backup SnapIn and restart it.

If anyone can help me get it working again, I would appreciate it. :)

Installing Microsoft Azure Backup Client on SBS 2011

We have successfully installed (and are using) Microsoft Azure Backup on our Windows Server 2012 instance.  However, we would also like to protect our Windows Small Business Server 2011 instance.

When installing the Microsoft Azure Backup client on the SBS 2011 server, the installing program prompted that WMF was not installed and provided the following link:

http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?LinkId=306012

When I initially went to that link, I was met with an error indicating it couldn't find the download page.  After searching for WMF and SBS 2011, I was met with a series of blog entries specifically stating NOT to install WMF 3.0 with SBS 2011 as it would cause issues with Exchange 2010.

I have now been able to download WMF 3.0; but, I have not installed it based on the blog entries that specifically stated the issues in Exchange 2010.

Is there anyway to confirm that these issues have been resolved in the latest release of WMF without installing it and learning that our Exchange server is ultimately compromised?

Thanks!

Robert

I tried several times to get the installer to complete on the server but always end up with an error at the end of the process and a failed installation.

The error has to do with DPM and this is the error message from the end of the DPMSetup log file:

Is there Currently an issue with Azure Backup.

I have a client that is getting the following error: "The URL configured for the backup service is not valid, or the service is currently unavailable"

I have confirmed the issue is not restricted to this client and i setup a new build in my lab confirm and I get the exact same error.

Any thoughts or suggestions ??

thank you

Failue in "Transfer data to vault"

The "Take Snapshot" worked fine, but "Transfer data to vault" is reported as failed.

I need to some advice as to how to investigate and resolve this issue. We might have a few successful backups followed by one or two which fail like this. There are three backup jobs - and two work every day. On the server itself, the backup is reported as successful.

Recreate or Find Recovery Key

We recently had an issue where our MABS Server was having issues with some of the clients related to the certificate.  We confirmed we had a recovery key, uninstall, reinstalled but upon doing so our Recovery Password will not work, it says it's invalid.

That being the case we spun up a new server, tried the same thing from Adding a DPM source and nothing, same error about the key.

IS the key hashed, or stored anywhere on the file server other then the text file when it's exported that we could use to recover from?

Azure Backup Server and Exchange 2016

Does Azure Backup Server support Exchange 2016?

This is my case:

I build a test environment on Hyper-V:

DC01 (Domain Controller) MAIL (Exchange 2016 server) Backup (Azure Backup Server)

I have installed the Azure Backup Server without any problems. But I noticed in the selection list shows Exchange 2013 instead of Exchange 2016.

After the installation I renamed the Exchange database name to a friendlier name (DB01).

From that moment the consistency check failed:

The operation failed for Exchange Mailbox Database Mailbox Database XXXXXXXXXX on server.name because the data source caption has changed. (ID 30231 Details: Internal error code: 0x809909E3)

I removed the Exchange server from the Protection Group. Create a new group, and add the Exchange server again. But the selection list shows already the wrong database name...

Any suggestion?

Azure Backup fails with error 0x1D4C2

Hi there,

I have searched other threads for this error but all seem to point to an extra \ in a couple of registry keys but this is not my problem.

Running Server 2012 and azure backup. I am backing up two volumes each night. One looks to succeed with no problems but the other fails with the above error code. No other indication as to what it may be. Has anybody got any ideas as to what it could be ?

Server folders backed up to Azure - Moving folders to another drive / volume - are full backups needed

I have been backing up my current data and having no problems with that! Have been satisfied with this backup solution! My question is now

I have added a new volume to my server and it is a new drive letter of course.  The files that I have been backing up to Azure are on volume label D:  the new volume label is S: if I move my backed up folders from D: to S: and then tag the new location as the backup location will those files be completely backed up again, or will Azure backup recognize them as being fully backed up and only do an incremental, or will it completely back them up again?

Azure Backup constant failure with error 0x086D6

Hi.

I wonder if anyone can help? Since install, I'm getting the error: Microsoft Azure Recovery Services Agent has detected inconsistencies while verifying the latest backup. Error 0x086D6 It always seems to be the C: drive and attempts to perform a complete backup again at the next cycle with the same error.

I've ran Chkdsk on SFC on the volume without issue.

I've also de-registered the server and re-registered, re-installing the latest MARS agent.

Any help would be appreciated.
